How do I view KML files on my iPhone?

I downloaded the zip file of fishing spots with the KML file for my location. How do I view it on the iPhone?

To see in Google Earth directly from the iPhone, please do the following:

1. Make sure you have WinZip installed:

2. And Google Earth:

3. Email yourself the file you downloaded.

4. Open the email attachment with Winzip.

5. Select the file with the KML extension.

6. Click the Open It button at the top and select Google Earth option.

Depending on location, it may take a minute or 2 for it to load all the spots.

How do I convert GPX or KML files to Lowrance USR files?

I downloaded the GPX and KML files for my location and would like to import them into my Lowrance unit. How do I convert the files to USR files?

There are several different way to convert the files for Lowrance. Depending on your unit, the easiest method is to use the Lowrance GPXtoUSR Geocaching Application. This application allows you to simply select the GPX files and it will convert it to a .USR file.

My favorite GPS software is GPSBabel. It will convert either file into several different GPS formats. It is free, and easy to use.

Another option would be to use the GPS Visualizer website to convert either the GPX or KML file to USR.

Woopy, does that mean i have to drive to a location in order to find anything about a location. When i get to the end of my driveway, I have a choice of probably a few hundred different places to head with only one thought in my head, and that's "where are they biting"

I have never tried TomTom before, however GPSBabel does convert from GPX to several different TomTom file formats. It is free.

Download and install the Garmin Communicator Plugin. The Garmin Communicator Plugin allows Garmin devices to receive various types of GPS data from websites. To download this plugin, see the resources section.

Click on the blue "Download for Windows" button, select the "Save File" button, and then choose a location on your computer to download the file. If you are a Mac user, select the "Download-Mac" link located in the top right-hand corner under the Quick links sections.

Install the Garmin Communicator Plugin by double-clicking on the downloaded file, and then following the prompts. Be sure to have your Garmin device and Garmin USB/serial cable ready as you will be prompted to connect your device to your computer during the installation process.

Open your GPX file in notepad by right clicking on the GPX file, selecting "Open With", clicking on "Choose default program", and then selecting Notepad. The GPX file is opened in Notepad.

Copy of the content of the GPX file in Notepad, and then paste the content in GPX File Uploader. To go to GPX File Uploader, see the resources section.

Add the GPX file content to your Garmin device by clicking on the "Upload GPX to your Garmin" button in GPX File Uploader. The Garmin Communicator Plugin will add the GPX content to your Garmin device. Be sure that your Garmin device is connected to your computer before clicking on the "Upload GPX to your Garmin" button.

Alternatively, Garmin also has a program called Homeport. It also allows you to import GPX files and then save everything to your SD card.

If you are using the Android version of the mobile app, then it will automatically get your current location if GPS is enabled on your phone. Also, new in the Android, you can set your location by City, State (not ZIP) and it will save and load for your area. If this is iPhone, then you will need to make sure GPS is also enabled. However, there is not a dashboard.

Use the Prediction in the app or website to see when the fish are biting best.

Incorporate more "Places"

Personally I have 26 different lakes, rivers and tributaries to fish by boat, float tube or walking in here in Texas. Not counting on tournaments we fish here in Texas/Oklahoma/Arkanas or Louisiana_ that can take us to another twenty big name lakes as well. I ama former writer for primarily fishing magazines and would like to share some of me and my son-in-laws fishing trips. Expand your places within the app to search usiing the "+" such as Lake+Fork+Texas+Alba, in this case I know the city nearest the main marina which is more efficient since there are over twenty boat ramps.

Also it is very difficult having to change from portrait to landscape to see what your writing causes typos.

Currently, we are NOT using keyword based search for hotspots. If you would like to do that, please use the regular search page: http://fishingstatus.com/Home/SearchResults.aspx

The Hotspot search uses the latitude/longitude of the place searched, in order to find all places within 50 miles of the city. Example:

http://fishingstatus.com/Places/Hotspots.aspx?distance=50&mapzoom=8&location=lake%20fork,%20texas

There are over 100 spots within 50 miles of Lake Fork, Texas. You can use paging at the bottom to navigate the results. If you just want to find a specific lake, please use the regular search.
