On Monday afternoon we fished up the beach and caught a couple dozen Spanish Mackerel, and a dozen Bluefish. Saw some Cobia, but couldn’t get a bite. On Tuesday we fished offshore and caught some gaffers before doing some drops. We caught many Amberjack, Sea Bass, and half of a nice tilefish.

On Wednesday, we smoked them. 37 dolphin, Snowy Grouper, Tilefish, and Black Belly Rose Fish all before 11:45. 980 line, 75 fathoms on the dolphin. Watched Hatters Fever spend most of the day backing down (5 hours) on the 620# Blue they weighed. He got jumped by 5 at the same time. At noon we put out the big lures and went looking for a Blue with no love.

On Thursday afternoon we went Cobia fishing around the shoals and I caught my first Cobia in nearly 20 years, and my largest so far at 45#. We also released 3 other small ones.

On Friday we went way South and fished around some Morehead boats. Caught 15 dolphin, including a 40#er. Lost one right at the boat as big or bigger than 40 pounds. Caught another Snowy and some Black Belly Rose Fish.  Trolled the big lures for a while. Had a rat Blue miss the Black Bart Abaco Prowler on the flat line, only to watch  a minute later a 400-500# one come out of the water on it and begin grayhounding toward England. Nearly spooled a 50W before pulling the hook. Disappointing, but what a show she put on.

Fantastic fishing all week!
