October 6th 2019 – October is without a doubt my favorite month for sight fishing the backcountry and fishing the flats of Key West. The weather has been a little windy and some rains are moving through the area from time to time but that does not keep us from working the shallows to show our anglers a good time targeting, casting and catching using sight fishing techniques here in Key West. Bonefishing has been amazing in Key West Sight fishing is exactly what it sounds like. We see the fish and cast to them. Sight fishing is most traditionally done on the flats with a trained flats fishing guide. A trained eye is needed to see the fish followed by good communication skills to instruct the angler where the target is based on the boats reference for the angler to cast to. Sight fishing can be done anywhere there is clear water and fish to cast to that anglers or fishing guide can see.. October in my experience holds some of the best sight fishing on the flats.
