Just a notice that the original web cam is up and running again.  It’s pointed at Spider island. I will not be posting on the report much this summer. Eddy The post April 4th 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

Yes we still have ice out in front of us.  The last storm left us with about 12″-16″ of snow which compressed to about 10″ on the level.  It’s supposed to warm up after Easter. Click on images to enlarge. Eddy The post March 28th 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

Winter is still with us.  The cold temps are refreezing the lake to some extent.  We are forecasted to recieve 12-18 inches of snow in the next 48 hours.  Should be interesting… Eddy The post March 23rd 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

Overnight the main lake skimmed over.  The smooth areas you will see in the pictures is ice. It is not too often the lake is almost ice-free and then refreezes like it has.  maybe we can call another ice-out date…..lol!!    😉 click on images to enlarge Eddy The post March 21st 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

What’s that glow? If you squint a little you can definitely make it out. Ahhhh… it’s the light at the end of the dark and unpredictable winter tunnel. Kids are entering their last trimester of school the birds are singing and new life seems to be infused into everything around you. It feels like there’s […]

There is still some ice in front of us and to the east probably the last amount of any ice on Mille Lacs.  MNDNR called ice out on March 16th. However you would have needed an icebreaker to drive out of Isle Bay to the NW towards Garrison for the first 4 miles….    😉 […] The post March 20th 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

The open water is getting closer. The wind has switched more north. The greater majority of the lake is open. But traditionally “open” means being able to drive a boat from Isle Bay to Garrison Bay. So it won’t be called “ice out” today like I thought it might have been. Eddy The post March 17th 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

It looks like the lake will be open sometime tomorrow.  Strong NW winds have moved the ice and there is open water NW of Hennepin Island and to our NW by about 3 miles. The ice is pretty soft and doesn’t appear to be doing much for damage.     Click on images to enlarge […] The post March 16th 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

The ice is moving. With the winds switching to the NW for the next few days a lot will happen on the main lake.                   click on image to enlarge Our main webcam is currently down and the view there is from March 5th. The cooler temps over the last few days have slowed the deterioration of the ice.  Maybe it will last another week or two. click on images to enlarge Eddy   The post March 9th 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

Relaxing intimate vacations with your family of four (or three or five we’re talking nuclear family here) get so much attention. “I can’t wait to have some alone time just the four of us ” or “We can’t wait to have a peaceful getaway ” or “What we need is some time away from the hustle and […]

Over the last few days the lake’s ice has changed a lot.  There is now open water around the shallow reefs Spider-Island in front of us and the bays are opening up also. When the wind blows it moves around.  I’m hoping we won’t see any significant winds for a while as the ice is […] The post March 5th 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

Yesterday as the temperatures climbed the ice pushed and the crack in front closed up. But there is no doubt now the ice has broken loose from the shoreline.  It will only be a matter of time before it starts to move around when we get a strong wind.  It still is about 15-16 inches […] The post March 1st 2024 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing...

This morning I have an eye appt. Richard will check ice conditions and determine whether we will open for the weekend and if so what areas will be accessible. Yesterday afternoon the winds picked up from the NW and we received just a snow flurry. Not enough to even cover the ground. This morning from looking with our zoomable camera (not the webcam) the ice pushed some about two miles out. In close it seemed stable.  We had a low temperature of 0 this […] The post February 28th 2024 first appeared on Ly...

Overnight with the “cool down” the ice was rumbling.   Many 2″-4″ cracks appeared during the night some froze over some not yet when we checked our areas early this morning.  Yesterday I limited travel to just ATV and SxS for portables and rentals for just that reason.  With 16″ of ice and the top two […] The post February 24th 2024 first appeared...

Yesterday the bite was slow for most of the day.  The areas I moved the four small rentals we have out are in 14-16 feet of water and at this time of year good Northern Pike territory. It was evident especially in two houses reasonably close together in the same spot.  One house had zero […] The post February 23rd 2024 first appeared on Lyback's I...

We had three rentals out overnight.  Some Perch were caught in the afternoon  A few Walleye overnight but it was slower than it has been.  One rental has a Northern Pike lurking around it’s area as currently they are not seeing any Perch action when we checked on them this am. The ice is still […] The post February 22nd 2024 first appeared on Lyba...
