Bass fishing is picking up with best fishing on the points and in the buck brush using plastic worms. Bass are burrowed deep in the bushes. Topwater baits or rapidly retrieved spinnerbaits are best early and late in the day. After the sun rises pitch or cast grubs and plastic worms with 1/16 ounce weights […]

Water level is around 303 and stable. Bass are still feeding. Spinnerbaits in the coves with particular attention to points are a good choice. Creature baits dropped into the middle of buckbrush will also take the finicky fish. Jerk baits fished parallel to buck brush banks are accounting for good fish. Carolina-rigged lizards are taking […]

With the frequency of cold fronts and rain over the past couple of weeks fishing has been on and off. When the rains let up the fish start biting. When the rains resume they turn off again. When the rain runs it’s course fishing will once again take off and be better than ever. Although […]

Striper and white bass fishing is good below Kerr Dam. Bucktails and live shad are the best bait. With the current lake level fishing has slowed in some spots. Bass fishing is generally slow and requires patience. Currently the larger fish are generally on the windblown points. Fish the flooded willow bushes adjacent to the […]

With the predicted rains fishing success will depend on patience. Target mud lines where muddy creek water enters the main lake or river. Chartreuse or red/orange rattling baits and Chatterbaits as well as large gold bladed spinnerbaits should take most of the bass. Clear water calls for more natural colors the vibrating crankbaits and spinnerbaits...

Stripers are biting well on live shad. Fishing is good from Nutbush Creek to Palmers Point and from the mouth of Eastland Creek to Butchers Creek. The stripers appear to be moving up the lake starting their spawning runs into the Dan and Staunton Rivers. Largemouth bass are taking spinnerbaits Speed Shads and plastic grubs […]

Some good catches of bass are being made on main lake points on jig ‘n pig slow-rolled spinnerbaits and rattling crankbaits. Bass are also being caught by anglers fishing the willows on main lake points with black/blue jig ‘n pig chartreuse spinnerbaits and Rat-L-Traps. The lunker pattern is to fish rip-rap with spinnerbaits. Lots of […]

The temperatures in the past week and the expected higher temperatures in the coming weeks should show fish beginning to feed heavily prior to their spawning. Some good bass are taking shad-colored crankbaits on main lake points. Concentrate on the rocky red clay points. Best area is between Clarksville and Eastland Creek. Stripers are being […]

With the weather trying to start warming up water temperatures have been up and down and bass and crappie are on the feed. Bass may generally be found near their normal spawning grounds holding in deeper water adjacent and coming up on the flats to feed once the sun warms the water. Crappie are schooled […]

Largemouth bass fishing is fair on main lake points in six feet of water near rocks. Crankbaits spinnerbaits and five inch chartreuse/pepper grubs are the preferred baits. Crappie fishing is excellent over brushpiles and in the shallows. Slow trolling with small minnows in the backs of coves works well. Stripers are taking cut shad in […]

Please use the utmost caution when boating on our state’s waters this week. The outdoor temperatures are cold and the water is cold enough to cause hypothermia and possible death. Special note: WEAR your life jacket. It can save your life. It won’t do anyone any good in a compartment. At the very worst it […]

Bass action is fair to good on spinnerbaits and live shad in 6-8 feet of water off points. Crappie are taking small minnows over creek channels and brushpiles particularly in Rudd’s Butcher Panhandle and Grassy Creeks. A fair number of large bass are taking Rat-L-Traps in the back of creeks particularly on NE banks.

Some bodies of water throughout the state are showing ice in various amounts. In some places tide current and/or sun will move or melt the ice enough to allow entry to the water but a few places have been iced in. Check conditions before venturing forth. The warmer weather predicted for the weekend should open […]

Largemouth bass are catchable by working spoons and spinnerbaits in 20-25 feet of water on dropoffs in the lower end. The sun in the afternoon is bringing them up on rocky points to feed. Jig ‘n pig and fat plastic grubs are the ticket. Crappie are slow to hit but can be located around brushpiles […]

Largemouth bass may be caught in 3-4 feet of water on Speed Shads and Poe’s RC3 crankbaits. A stop-and-go retrieve is working best. Crappie are hovering around deep brushpiles. Vertical jigging minnows over the brushpiles will produce the better fish. Striper fishing is slow but some fish are being caught at the 25 foot level […]

When fish are found anglers can load the boat but finding them is the trick. Best action is coming from midlake and downlake areas and seems to be centered around the points halfway back in the creeks and in the edges of the flooded cover in the coves. Spinnerbaits plastic worms and jig ‘n pig […]

Bass are schooled up on structure and can be consistently caught on old road beds and points in 4-10 feet of water. Fish are aggressively hitting lures bumped on structure.
