The bread and butter fishing around the bay has kept anglers busy with gars pinkies bream and whiting all on offer depending on which area you're fishing. Last week customer Nick sent us a report from himself and his young daughter and this week they're out again. Nick and Chantelle had a fish from the pontoons in Mordialloc creek and Chantelle is...

The run of tuna local to Melbourne has continued and is gaining more and more momentum each day. With huge schools of fish to 40kg just offshore from the bays and along the coast many are taking advantage and getting amongst them when conditions allow. The schools have been isolated and as widespread as Cape Woolamai across to Portland and further...

The Murray cod fishing has been good on both bait and lures around the region - with some good fishing happening not far from Melbourne at all. If you're looking to tangle with a cod you could try the Yarra river over the weekend. The river should still be quite high and dirty from the heavy rain Melbourne has received but it will still fishable ar...

Although the weather currently in Melbourne isn't very inspirational - the forecast is looking like some excellent weather over the coming weekend. With the recent rain the bays will be a dirty but the fish like whiting should be firing. Influxes of freshwater really stir the critters up that the whiting prey on and they should be ready to go by th...

While the focus hasn't been on the gummies or snapper in particular in both bays - there have been a few caught especially pinkies and snapper. The small pinkies from 20cm to 1.5kg or so are thick especially in Port Phillip no matter which area you're fishing. While they can be frustrating - there have been plenty of better size fish amongst them....

The whiting fishing in Westernport continues to roll on with good numbers of school fish coming in and some larger fish around also. Large numbers of the fish have been in the 34 - 38cm size range but searching a bit deeper has given anglers a few more here and there above 40cm. Fisherman Mike landed a lovely fish of 45cm during his last fish on th...

Many anglers feel that snapper fishing is 'off the table' in Port Phillip the truth is there are some quality fish still in the bay and they are there to be caught. Fishing the southern end of the bay around the Mornington region is the best bet by far with water depths of 19 - 20m a very good starting point. These fish generally are best fished fo...

The local and west coast run of tuna has continued this week with plenty of fish about still but some real sorcery needed at times to get the bites off them. Increased boat traffic and non-stealth tactics never help but the fish are certainly still there to be caught - and have been. The fish are still spread from around the western entrance of Wes...

All of the local creeks running into the bay have been fishing well for bream since the rainfall. Heavy rain like we've had recently really moves some food around for these fish and they tend to feed aggressively. Just make sure you are fishing baits with plenty of movement or scent as the discoloured water makes it harder for the fish to locate yo...

The freshwater regions have been fishing well for those that are unaffected by recent fires. Those that are need some time to clear up as ash and debris in streams and rivers and flooding rains will knock smaller systems about for a little while yet. The south Gippsland and northern inland regions though are fishing well and remain unaffected. On t...

Land based options around the bay have been good over the past week or so with garfish and whiting providing some good fun and better eating. Rye through to Brighton has been excellent for the gars with the hot spots Mornington Frankston and Seaford. There have been some larger gars about but most have been from 15 - 30cm. Staff member Dylan has be...

Many anglers have been aware of the tuna activity along the west of the coast and have been making the most of these fish again this week. There have been fish stretched from Portland and further west right across to offshore from Westernport and Inverloch. There have been fish inside both bays but they have been flighty and hard to come across but...

Tuna fishing for many means heading down the west coast during the middle of Winter with big seas and cold winds all making for part of the effort. We have been getting noticeably better runs of Summer tuna along the west coast over the last few years with more anglers now aware of their movements and preparing themselves to tangle with them. Over...

Westernport's whiting fishing continues to impress. Most anglers out there and working towards a bag of fish and the seasoned whiting fisherman are finding the fishing excellent. Most areas of the port have numbers of fish about with pinpointed spots really not needed at all. Wherever you'd normally fish for them they will most likely be there in...

There have been some solid flathead caught during the warm weather we've had along with some nice black bream. This report features three different flathead species in it! Customer Jason was fishing down at Port Welshpool last week and he caught some nice yank flathead with a couple of rippers around 70cm in the mix. Most of the solid flathead wer...

Despite the warm weather there has been some good trout fishing around if you're fishing the shade of the rivers or concentrating on the cooler parts of the day. The Eildon area is fishing well with both the Goulburn and pondage producing fish. Customer Anel fished the Goulburn during the week and landed a couple of nice rainbow trout to 6lb. Anel...

The wild west coast is producing it's Summer time inshore speedsters with tuna and kingfish on the cards. The best part about this form of fishing at this time of year is that the fish aren't out as far as normal Winter fishing. Targeting the bluefin tuna this time of year revolves highly around casting to surface feeding schools of fish that are...

Western Port's whiting fishing has still been excellent. The fish have been firing all around the port but most of the reports have been coming from the area between Stony Point and Tooradin. The grassy banks of this region hold a lot of the substrate to protect the whiting and also give them plenty of food. If you're a novice or struggle to get y...

While this season wasn't the greatest for many bay anglers there are still some decent snapper holding in the bay. Most anglers have hung up the snapper gear for the meanwhile but there are still fish there to catch. The main areas to concentrate your efforts on have been between Frankston and Mt Martha in depths between 16m and 19m. Outside of th...

If you're after a place to head for the long weekend Eildon can cover a few of your bases. Being a reasonably short drive from the suburbs and boasting enough varied accommodation it's the perfect location for a long weekend fishing. The main pondage in town has been producing trout for anglers leisurely fishing it's banks with powerbait and dough...
