The bite has still been a bit off with a lot more smaller fish circulating however we still managed a decent pick in some of our local spots. Capt Dave reports okay fishing on the Viking Starship. It took awhile this morning for the Porgies to bite but we then had a couple of good drifts by the lighthouse with nice size quality fish. We tried for Sea Bass at the end of the trip but it wasn’t great. There were a lot […]

Capt Dave G reports a very good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had some great late season Fluke action with keepers all around the boat on every drift. We also had some nice size Porgies and a few Sea Bass in the mix. Everyone onboard went home with a nice bag of […]

It's been a big week of fishing here in RI with everything from stripers to albies.  Today's blitz of stripers was one of the biggest I have seen in a long time.  The stripers were after massive schools of bay anchovies.

Capt Dave reports a better day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. Although we did see an improvement today from yesterdays trip fishing was still tough. We did see quiet a bit of action on board but it was a lot of small fish and throwbacks but did have some really nice in the […]

Oh what a trip! 3 species of cetaceans! We didn’t need patience on this trip we found whales almost right away. We left the heat and headed out to sea. A short while after passing Montauk Light we encountered our first of 15 whales. The 50 of us on board were treated to views of […]

Capt J.R. reports a very productive 3 day trip on the Viking Star. We trolled up some nice yellowfin tuna on our way to the tile grounds which kept our ride out busy. The tile action was excellent from start to finish on day one with everyone boating meaty Viking tiles. The best action we […]

They say a picture says a thousand words but in this case the picture says just three words. THEY ARE IN! Albie Master Tim shows how it's done.

Capt Dave reports a tough day of fishing on the Viking Starship. Overall the bite was just off today. We went to a lot of the same spots we’ve been fishing everyday and the fish just weren’t biting. Most of the fish were on the smaller side however we did have some decent size Porgies […]

I'm about to grab a schoolie that was caught from the kayak this morning.  The fishing all over RI was hot as the weather today! The RI saltwater scene just took a dramatic turn for the better.  Along the oceanfront a lot of that bait that was off the shore has moved in possibly driven in by albies as the albie fishing has taken a big turn for t...

Capt Dave reports a pretty good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. The first drop down this morning was a bit slow not many keepers but some action. On our second drop we found some really great sized fish but not a lot of them. On the third drop we found our quantity […]

This is one of many stripers and blues that I landed today in the Bay from the kayak. They were  chasing down schools of peanut bunker. Last evening/night I hit the oceanfront in a place where the tide and conditions were just right.  The only thing missing was bait.  I made a lot of casts and came away with one striper a schoolie along with a k...

Capt Steven Sr. reports a beautiful afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Starlite. The weather could not be any better this afternoon which made for some great fishing conditions. With a smaller load aboard the second half of todays “half day” fishing we were able to boat even more keeper Fluke than this morning. We […]

Summer is still sizzling! While Labor Day weekend traditionally marks a time to celebrate the unofficial end of summer the CRESLI and Viking Fleet team was hard at work finding whales in the waters off Montauk. Reports of whales and dolphins had us searching an area to our east before heading west along the shoreline. […]

Capt Dave reports another great day of fishing on the Viking Starship. We started out the morning on the anchor where we sat for 2-2.5 hours and had all the Porgies we needed. Porgy fishing was steady for that whole drop with large and jumbos coming up all around the boat. after get our load […]

Capt Steven Sr. reports an action filled morning of fishing on the Viking Starlite. We started out with the biggest fleet of boats we’ve seen all summer probably over 50 boats around and still managed boat 7 nice sized keeper Fluke after picking through the small fish. The Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil has been  the hot plug in the last week The good times just keep rolling for me with big numbers of slots on just about a nightly basis.  The hottest plug of the week has been a Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencil in a white color.  This looks like a Jumpin' Minnow on steroids.  It casts great into the wind and has a swagger on the ret...

Here's a slot that was landed this afternoon on a Slug go. Fishing for slots has been very good. The water is cold the air is cold and there should not be big numbers of fish around RI waters.  But they are here and the biggest surprise of the spring is the abundant numbers of slot fish along both the oceanfront and in the Bay.  I can't remember...
