The Doc Kline Reef is about a 230deg heading off the sanibel Lighthouse. It can be productive at certain time of the year. This is formerly the Jaycee Reef but was renamed in honor of Doc Kline. Doc Kline was a Sanibel Island Resident and an avid Tarpon Fisherman. Interestingly Doc's eye sight was failing, though he was an opthamologist. Doc won Angler of the year for the Fort Myers Beach Tarpon Hunters Club and could be seen most fishable days on his Grady White with friend and Capt Bill Gartrell and Bills dog Bear.
I had the pleasure fishing with Doc many times and he was committed to the coastal and marine environment. I've also spent a lot of time on this reef. If anyone finds a Penn 850 with a Star Rod, its mine. A barracuda yanked it out of the boat despite being between my legs and under my arms while re-rigging another line.
It gets heavy pressure being so close to shore but still gives up some nice catches from time to time.

Capt Paul
