In the last 24 hours the most Walleye over 20″ were caught in 20′ of water or less. The deeper water had action but most were under the slot size ranging from 6″ to 15″ spanning 3-4 year classes which is good for the future. The area where we are going to cross the pressure […] The post January 3rd 2026 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

The bite continued mainly under the slot Walleye with an occasional slot in the mix. Perch activity in the shallower water was busy but mostly small. With the full moon the shallow-water bite should be pretty good if you’re in the “right spot” and quiet. We are finishing up getting the permanents on the list […] The post January 2nd 2025 first app...

Friday night was a good night for those in the shallows. Received many pictures of 20″ plus Walleye including a 26″ and 28″ C/R.  Perch activity was good with a lot of smalls but Jumbos were mixed in.  Those deeper caught more under-slot Walleye and overall didn’t fare as well. The night bite was better […] The post December 27th 2025 first appear...

Today the ice we checked was around 15″ inside the pressure ridge 1.5 to 2 miles out from our access. Everything inside it stayed in good shape. I expect it to stay that way through tomorrow with temperatures getting a little warmer. Currently we are letting vehicles with a 5500lb curb weight out for rentals […] The post December 26th 2025 first a...

Merry Christmas!  We closed Christmas Eve afternoon and will remain closed today.  Our office will be open at 7:00 a.m. on Friday.  We have one family rental for today that was reserved long ago; otherwise a couple of us will be getting all the rentals ready for tomorrow. With the weather on the warm side […] The post December 25th 2025 first appe...

Yesterday I spent most of the day on the ice scraping roads to get ready for a little more cold tomorrow.  The past couple of days we’ve had enough warm weather to settle and actually melt some of the snow out there and it’s easier to get the roads scraped now instead of after the […] The post December 18th 2025 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fish...

Been out on the ice checking ice and establishing roads with the Land Cruiser.  Our ice depth in the smooth ice where we are going is between 11″ -12″.  We will not be allowing vehicle traffic out on it until it gets thicker.  ATVs – Side-by-sides pulling smaller wheelhouses can go along with normal ATV […] The post December 16th 2025 first appear...

Yesterday I started plowing a couple of roads. But with the warm-up the next couple of days we are going to spend time flooding rough spots for when it freezes up later this week. They are predicting 40-degree temps for tomorrow. We will only allow ATVs side-by-sides and snowmobiles with portables out. No ATVs with […] The post December 15th 2025...

Overnight we received less than a half inch of snow.  But more is forecasted this afternoon and tonight.  4″-7″ of snow and some pretty strong winds. So the lake will look a lot different tomorrow. Yesterday we staked what roads we could in the smoother ice areas. There is rough ice that broke up when […] The post December 9th 2025 first appeared...

Checking ice this morning we found close to 8″ inches of ice to the end of the Graveyard Road. There are some rough areas where it’s thicker. Also some cracks out towards the end of it from ice shifting. Cones are up and we will be headed this afternoon to other areas we go to […] The post December 8th 2025 first appeared on Lyback's Ice Fishing.

This morning early I went out and measured ice in some of the same spots and ice depth increased from 4.5″ Thursday to 6.5″ inches this morning.  All measurements were made in smooth clear ice.  Areas where the rougher ice ice depth was thicker and I’m quite sure farther out when we get there the […] The post December 7th 2026 first appeared on Ly...

The main lake is getting colder and the slush ice is forming along the shores. Our low temperatures are forecasted to be close to 0 the next couple nights and there is not much forecasted for snow in the 7 day forecast.  All good news.  So far so good they say. We haven’t updated the […] The post November 30th 2025 first appeared on Lyback's Ice F...

Overnight with the calm winds Ice began forming a little on the main lake and the bays skimmed over.  With the cold weather forecasted it should keep cooling the water off and making ice. This next weekend the office we still be closed but we will be around there.  It would be a good time […] The post November 29th 2025 first appeared on Lyback's...

Temperature have finally dropped and the last couple days we had 4-6″ of snow and very strong NW winds. Yesterday it was like the “Gales of November” on Mille Lacs.  Today winds have subsided somewhat and I’m sure the lake temps have dropped a bunch. With the cold weather the nest few days parts of […] The post Thanksgiving Day 2025 first appeared...

After a chilly weekend it’s already warming up.  This coming week and weekend the weather will be a good time for those to make that trip up to go over their fish house and check stoves regulators lights or anything that needs attention. Every year we go thru our rentals check all the lines fittings […] The post November 11th 2025 first appeared o...

This morning I seen our first snow flurries very few but it was snow.  Its the first time it was cold enough for it.  Lake temps are dropping but still a long way off from freezing. We are still busy working on improvements on our rental and trucks. And taking advantage of the nicer weather […] The post November 9th 2025 first appeared on Lyback's...

Today we start taking reservations for rentals for this upcoming winter.  It been a tradition of ours for a very long time.  It marks the beginning of the season for us. Today Cindy and I are sending out the seasonal letters and rate sheets to our customers.  It’s that time of year again to get things rolling towards winter. This summer was a tough one for most anglers out there. Large baitfish supplies kept Walleye well fed to the point that bite was very slow except […] The post September 5th 2025 first appeared...

Well we did it. We squeezed every last inch of fun sun and moments that matter out of summer. Raise your hand if you’re refreshed! Raise your hand if you’re inspired! Raise your hand if you’re grateful! The thing about this time of year is that it flies by faster than you reeled in those […]
