Atlantic City Fishing

Atlantic City Fishing

Fishing has been an important part of the history and culture of Atlantic City, NJ, since the city's earliest days. The area was originally home to the Lenni Lenape Native American tribe, who relied on fishing as a primary source of food. European settlers who arrived in the 1600s also engaged in fishing, and the industry continued to thrive throughout the following centuries.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Atlantic City became a major hub for commercial fishing, with a large fleet of fishing boats operating out of the city's port. The city was particularly known for its oyster and clam fisheries, which provided a steady source of income for local residents.

Today, fishing continues to be an important part of Atlantic City's history and culture, and the city is still home to a thriving sport fishing industry. Atlantic City, NJ offers a variety of fishing opportunities and species for both recreational and commercial anglers. Some of the most common fish species that can be caught in the waters around Atlantic City include Bluefish, Croaker, Flounder, Striped Bass, and Weakfish (Gray Trout).
