Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Carolina Beach may be a part of Cape Fear in North Carolina, but there is nothing scary about this oceanic getaway. The beaches here are popular with locals and tourists alike. While many people like to peruse the boardwalk or hike on Flytrap Trail, the water is still the biggest attraction. Carolina Beach has made a name for itself with its excellent fishing opportunities.
Fishing is enticing all throughout Cape Fear, but Carolina Beach fishing is among the best. The area is exceptionally developed for fishing trips. There are numerous inshore fishing spots, and visitors are sure to appreciate the fishing charters. No matter where you stay in Carolina Beach, you are sure to be close to a prime fishing destination.
If you are thinking about inshore fishing, any of the flats, beaches, or piers around Carolina Beach will suffice. The NC state record Flounder was caught here weighing in at 20 pounds and 8 ounces. A Florida Pompano caught right off Carolina Beach that weighed 8 pound also holds the NC state record. Anglers also target Red Drum and Black Drum. Other fish species known to inhabit these waters include Bluefish, Blowfish, Pompano, Cobia and False Albacore. Tarpon has even been spotted in this area.
From these locations as well as the many nearshore reefs and wrecks you can expect to hook King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel. There is also excellent snapper and grouper fishing from the nearshore to the deep. Carolina Beach also holds a couple of North Carolina record groupers. A 42 pound and 10 ounce Yellowfin Grouper and a 35 pound and 11 ounce Red Grouper were caught in these waters
Offshore Carolina Beach fishing is also a really fun time. When you go offshore, you will have ready access to the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream is a current of water that runs along the Atlantic Seaboard brings a constant supply of new fish to the area as the travel the stream in their migrations. If you fish in the Gulf Stream, you can bring home billfish, including Blue Marlin, White Marlin and Sailfish. Many other fish also frequent these waters, such as Albacore, Amberjack, Mahi-mahi and Tuna. The best fishing is generally in the fall and spring, but summertime trips can also be quite productive.
