Chickamauga Lake Fishing

Chickamauga Lake Fishing

Chickamauga Lake is a reservoir that is fed by the Tennessee River. It was created when the Chickamauga Dam was completed in 1940 by the Tennessee Valley Authority and has about 800 miles of shoreline and over 36,000 acres of water. While Chickamauga is best known as a battle site during the Civil War, and an important part of Americas’ past, Chickamauga Lake is best known for record sized Bass.

The most important thing to know about Chickamauga fishing is that it is all about that Bass. The Tennessee state record Largemouth Bass was caught in 2015 on Chickamauga, and weighed 15 pounds and 3 ounces. The 6 pound and 1 ounce state record Spotted Bass was also caught here. This lake is a sought-after destination for Bass anglers of all levels. Novices like to get their feet wet here. Experts know the waters will result in huge yields. In fact, Chickamauga fishing is so good that major Bass tournaments are held here on a yearly basis.

There are several species of Bass in the lake. Largemouth Bass is by far the most prevalent. However, you may also find Smallmouth Bass and Striped Bass on your next fishing venture. Although Bass is the big draw in this part of Tennessee, it is not the only fish worth catching in Chickamauga. There are also large populations of Crappie and Catfish. With all of this, it is no wonder that Chickamauga is routinely listed as one of the best fishing spots in the southern United States.
