Georgetown Fishing

Georgetown Fishing

Georgetown is located on Winyah Bay at the confluence of three rivers. It is the third oldest town and the second largest seaport in South Carolina. Native Americans who lived in this region would fish from the rivers and ocean in addition to gathering berries and hunting animals in the forests. Spaniards were the first Europeans to settle in the area. In the mid-1600s, French and English settlers in the Georgetown area began trading with Native Americans. Because Georgetown was a major port, pirates frequented the waters to steal from merchant ships. With a rich history and great fishing, Georgetown ranks high on the list of best places in the southeast US.

Georgetown fishing can be productive any time of the year. Popular targets fishing inshore waters around Georgetown include Bluefish, Flounder, Red Drum, Sheepshead, Snook, Spanish Mackerel, Speckled Trout, and Tarpon. Fishing Georgetown nearshore you will find Black Sea Bass, Cobia, Jacks, King Mackerel, and Sharks. Offshore there is excellent Blackfin Tuna, Mahi-Mahi (Dolphinfish, Wahoo, and many different species of Grouper, Snapper, and Porgy. There are also billfish, including Blue Marlin, Sailfish, and Swordfish in the deep, making Georgetown fishing very diverse.
