Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Port Aransas has been through a few name changes over the centuries, including Sand Point, Ropesville and Tarpon. Spanish explorer Alonzo Álvarez de Pineda discovered the island that this city is on in 1519. Legend has it that Jean La Fitte buried treasure somewhere on the island and marked it with a Spanish dagger that has a silver spike through the hilt. By the 1850s, a regular steamship service traveled between Port Aransas and New Orleans. Port Aransas fishing became popular in the 1800s, and former president Franklin D. Roosevelt himself fished here several times during the 1930s.
Inshore fishing around Port Aransas on the many flats, creeks, and other fishing structures, you may Black Drum, Red Drum, Speckled Trout, and Tarpon.
