Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Victoria, British Columbia, is one of the most historical cities in the entire Pacific Northwest. The first European settlement dates back to 1843. Since that time, the city has been beautifully maintained and carefully developed. It is called “The Garden City” for its lovely greenery, and the area has become a strong tourist attraction and business destination. There is more than enough to do in Victoria, but many people visit for the rugged coastline. Victoria is perfect for boating and fishing.
Although anglers will find much to enjoy in Victoria, this is a prime spot for Salmon. Salmon are migratory fish, and while they often live in the ocean, Salmon also return to their freshwater breeding grounds. Victoria is situated along a key migration route that extends from the Strait of Juan de Fuca down to Puget Sound. This means that Salmon are always passing by Victoria. There are many different salmon species, including Chinook, Coho, Sockeye and Pinks.
If you are looking for specific Salmon species, you need to explore the seasonal changes. While Salmon is almost always in the area, each species prefers different times of the year. For example, Chinook (King Salmon) is the most common species and can be caught from the early spring through the fall. Coho Salmon are most common in the Summer. Sockeye and Pink Salmon are more common in the late summer and fall.
Victoria fishing is also popular for Halibut. Other fish species you can expect are Ling Cod and Rockfish. You might even get to bring home some Dungeness Crab. Victoria is part of Vancouver Island, but it also has plenty of bodies of water besides the Pacific Ocean. For your Victoria fishing adventures, try spots like Gordon River and Elk Lake.
