Galveston Fishing Report

Texas is having some record breaking warm temperatures for the month of February, and we are experiencing some nice days of fishing in Galveston, Texas.  This past week our Galveston Fishing Guides fished both the Galveston Jetties and the Galveston Bay and Marsh.  Wind speed and direction dictate the areas we fish, but both have produced fish this week.

The Galveston Jetties have been the most productive for fish in the box when the winds are calm enough for us to get out there.  Our Galveston Fishing Guides are seeing the Bay Snapper begin to congregate along the jetties.  These fish are moving in from the bays and estuaries, and some people believe the large females come in from the Gulf as well – but either way the best is yet to come.  Water temperatures are reaching that ‘magic’ number 70 degrees and more fish are staging each day.  As we are fishing for the Bay Snapper (Sheepshead or Convict fish) we are also catching some nice redfish.  The redfish action will continue to get better as will the speckled trout bite.

We could not write a Galveston Fishing Report without mentioning the Black Drum Run that is happening in

Galveston Fishing Report

Galveston, Texas.  This is the time of year to catch some Giant Black Drum!  We are using cracked crab rigged on a Carolina Rig with 6 to 8 oz of weight.  These amazing fish will put up a battle and test the skills of anglers.  The Bull Drum Run will continue thru most of April.

Tides have been the key to the back lakes and marshes.  Fishing can turn on or off like a light switch lately while fishing these areas.  We are catching good numbers of fish in the bayous and back lakes, with many being just shy of the legal limit to keep.  Many redfish in the 18” to 19” range are being found in the bayous and back lakes.  We are also catching some sheepshead and flounder in these areas.  Live shrimp under a popping cork is the most productive.  Shell reefs and drains are our focus while fishing these hidden spots.

Spring Break is around the corner, and fishing in Galveston must be on your list of ‘things to do’.  This is an amazing time of year to get kids out on Galveston Bay with one of our Family Friendly Fishing Guides.  Give us a call at 409-739-8526 and book your Galveston Fishing Charter today!
