Galveston Fishing Report

An old saying, we here often in Texas is “if ya don’t like the weather…. Give it a minute!”  The weather in March held true to this.  Fishing in Galveston Bay and the Jetties have been excellent this past week.  Water temperatures have risen and maintaining over 70 F.  Water clarity has been good in main bays, and stained in the back lakes from rain runoff.  The bayous and back lakes are beginning to clean up and nice speckled trout are hitting our decks.

The Galveston Jetties Fishing Report is full of awesome numbers of Bay Snapper, Spanish Mackerel, Bull Drum and some Bull Reds as well.  We are still in the spawning period of our Bay Snapper, but most likely will taper off in the next couple of weeks.  Excellent numbers and size of Bay Snapper are being caught on each Galveston Fishing Charter, with limits of these tasty fish being the norm.  Some nice slot redfish, puppy drum, pompano and Spanish Mackerel are mixed in as well.  The Spanish Mackerel really made their presence known this past week, and offer some exciting battles on lite tackle gear.  Live Shrimp freelined along the jetties have been the hot go to rig on our recent Galveston Charters

Our Galveston Fishing Guides have also been targeting Big Black Drum and Bull Reds when customers want to

hook into a Giant Beast!  These are catch - photo and release fish.

The back lakes and marshes are holding good numbers of redfish, and speckled trout are being caught as well.  We are using live shrimp under a popping cork in these areas.  Also, mixed in with the reds and trout are sheepshead, puppy drum and flounder.  We are targeting back lake drains and main bay oyster reefs depending on the conditions – mainly wind and water clarity.

Fishing Outlook for Galveston, Texas

The month of April will find us targeting Bay Snapper, redfish, speckled trout, Spanish Mackerel, pompano, bull reds, and sharks will begin showing up as well.  Some neat things will be transitioning during April.  Bay Snapper will be in the later stages of their annual spawn.  Speckled trout will be gearing up for their spawn.  Good numbers of redfish will be showing up along the jetties and beachfront.  The back lakes and bayous will be yielding more and more reds and trout.  This is an exciting time of year to book a Galveston Fishing Charter
