It was and then it wasn't! April 15-30 2025 Report

Welcome back everyone!  Well, the second half of April wasn't great as it usually is which was a surprise.  Yeah we caught fish and made it work but it wasn't easy to make each day productive.  So far the last two weeks of April has seen the finger channels to be pretty slow with not a ton of action.  I thought it was just me but a couple of other guides mentioned the same thing to me.  Shark fishing on the flats is something I hadn't done in a while and it was fair with Raul and his boys hooking two lemon sharks and landing one.  The tarpon fishing has been really tough during the day with a few fish here and there early morning before they go MIA.  With that being said, we had gotten a few of them to eat flies but again, it hasn't been easy.

Then there was this last week of April and things started to change.  Most of my bookings lately have been for bonefish and the bones were making me look good this week.  Clients Sam, Bernie, David and John were among those releasing bonefish on fly and spin tackle.  The permit have started to show up a bit as they wrap up their offshore spawning season and Sam was the recipient of a nice permit to prove the point.

While I haven't been snook fishing, I have seen plenty of late season migrating mullet getting blasted along shorelines by snook of varying sizes.

It's been a good month overall and less windy than the typical April.  This coming month should be a great May as is usually the same with little wind and plenty of bonefish and permit tails to greet us.
