Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
I wish all a Happy New Year! The end of fishing year was exciting for a few weeks when the big Tarpon showed up in the back country and on the coast. I spent the holiday in Key Largo fishing with my kids. and a block party for the neighborhood just having a good time. We caught Mutton Snappers, Yellowtails, Barracudas, Cero Mackerels, Parrotfish, Snook and assorted other reef fish.
It was fun until an Arctic cold front came through December 30th and dropped temps until Jan 3rd. We also had a Giant Full Moon!
On Jan. 2nd it was 46 degrees at Flamingo Marina, and possible the most boats ever launched there. Juan his son Leo. friends Matt and Jim were on the dock ready to go
Matt and Jim were from Chicago and Jim didn’t believe it got cold in South Florida but luckily bought a sweatshirt in the ship store. It was cold on ride out into Whitewater Bay but warmed up around 9 a.m...
The water was 60 degrees, and we worked hard to find fish early on. The water was extremely clear back there and that’s not good for catching fish. We finally found some Ladyfish, Trout and a couple Snappers on a Rock bar.
The tide was just starting to come in out on the coast so we made the run out. We pulled into a creek which is good in cold weather but not today. We move on to another creek and had a little action. Had a big Shark eat a bait and then Leo hooked a Snook on a NLBN 3' paddle tail. We fished a point with allot of current with a chunk of Ladyfish; first bite was a 29 Redfish. Matt s first real Saltwater fish. We also had a couple other Shark bites.
We moved on and fished another point with smokin current, Matt had the hot hand catching 2 more Snook
We spent the last couple hours fishing schools of 3 lb. Ladyfish, 3-4 lb. Jacks and some Trout mixes in. These guys loved the action on a very tough day. I appreciate their enthusiasm.
Jan-3rd, Today it is really cold again. I have Dave and his twin son Bo and Liam. We started out close to marina hoping the fish were stacked up on a shoreline. They weren’t but we did get this really nice Trout. The tied was already low with 4 hours still falling. I got us into a couple spots that could of ended up bad chasing a bunch of pelicans diving on bait schools.
Again, today there are more boats at Flamingo than we normally get. This creates a problem in most spots so I tried to find fish In out of the way places. We ended up chasing Tripletails and the twins really like that. They like seeing them and casting at them. There were even allot of boats running around on the traps.
I wanted to get them a Snook but ended up with a couple bites one being a Redfish. We ended the day hoping for a big anything all we ended up with 3 lb. Jacks. I can’t wait for the warm-up It’s always fun to fish with kids that love fishing and these 2 are good.
