View this email in your browser Summer 2026 Newsletter Summer is almost over and as we move into autumn we will begin to see more longtail tuna in the bay! The summer season saw some interesting fishing.  We unfortunately had another poor spotty season but the numbers of big broadbar mackerel have been extraordinary. Golden trevally were never far away and we saw some great fly fishing on the inshore flats.   Cod, coral trout, queenfish and sweetlip were the main catches inshore on the reefs.  Working soft plastics like the new Wilson wild shrimp saw some good results.   On the bay, broad bar mackerel, longtail tuna, queenfish and goldens were the main target species.   The flats have seen some good fishing and we have a fairly sunny start to the year which has made sight fishing much easier. Goldens, queenfish, painted sweetlip, diamond trevally and GT were the main species with some great tailing action on the flats. If you want to get some fly fishing action on the flats there is still some prime months ahead of us so please reach out for rates and dates.     Tuna Season 2026 Longtails have begun to move into the bay.  The early fish have been preying on flying fish and are easily tempted with small stick baits.  Some bigger fish have been caught working current lines and pressure points throughout the bay. If you are keen on some tuna action this year, book early so you don’t miss out.   The Inshore Flats Project Further north, Fisheries QLD has been conducting some tunnel net trials targeting species such as permit, golden trevally and GT’s. We do not support these trials and we ask you to please follow the Inshore Flats Project socials for more up to date information on submissions and letters we are putting forward to the QLD government. If you are keen to help, the best thing you can do is write a letter to the minister.  Guidelines and more information are available on this link https://www.inshoreflatsproject.com.au/get-involved These trials do not affect Hervey Bay and our flats, but it does affect our fellow guides and sportfishermen from Gladstone to Weipa, so please help them out.  We also do a few northern tours each year and they will be affected from these trails and a possible tunnel net fishery up north down the track.   Guide Life   Thanks for reading our newsletter!
