Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Cast and Blast Report Port Lions
Well we are closing in on the end of October rapidly.Although we did not fish a great deal during the month of October we did have acouple awesome days of fishing and duck hunting with some very good friends.
Captain John, his wife Laci who work for Port Lions Lodge,Captain Matt and Captain Eric who charter boats in Seward, and Ashley who is alifelong friend of John’s from Richmond Hill Geargia all came out to Port LionsLodge for a fun trip. During this week of fishing and hunting we shot numerousducks of several varieties including harlequins, mallards, goldeneyes, and afew others. Everyone had a blast hanging out on the beaches shooting the passers and watching Geechee (John’s black lab) work the downed ducks among thedecoys. We even had a few seals come in to see what all the commotion wasabout.
On one of the days during this weeklong cast and blast tripwe went back to our spot where our biggest halibut of the season was landed byone of our clients, Greg, in early September. Once the anchor was set CaptainEric hooked into a nice chicken of about 25 pounds only to have Captain Jamesmiss his fish at the surface. Of course I told him that I was protecting myresource and not letting any Seward guy come in and take my halibut! HahaAnyway, once we all got back to fishing Laci jigged up two nice 25-35 pounderswithin a few minutes. We all decided that would be enough halibut for the day.We were also happy to see that not all of the butts had gone deep yet.
For the next several days we got into the deer hunting modeso we ran beaches, hiked into the hillsides, and even took our 4-wheelers upinto the state land above Port Lions on the hunt. When we were able to huntdays without fog a few nice deer were dropped.
Overall our weeklong October Cast and Blast trip was asuccess. The weather could have cooperated a little better but we were able toharvest some nice ducks, deer, and a few very decent halibut. I can’t wait fornext year to get this group all together again at the Port Lions Lodge. If youare interested in hunting, fishing, or a combination of both contact CaptainJames at the Port Lions Lodge!
