Eildon region worth the drive

Being a reasonably short drive from the suburbs and boasting enough varied accommodation it's the perfect location for a long weekend fishing. The main pondage in town has been producing trout for anglers leisurely fishing it's banks with powerbait and dough style baits. Just remember to set up and berley correctly if you're going to do this form of fishing. The streams in the area are all fishing well also, with some larger brown and rainbow trout coming from the Goulburn around the Thornton area. Customer Vince fished the smaller waters in the area recently and landed some typical brown trout for the area. Vince fished small bladed spinners in gold and black colours, with the extra flash and silhouette standing out in the sandy tannin water. Small soft plastics imitating aquatic insects have been excellent when free-drift through the tailouts and pools also. The lake has been fishing well for all species including golden perch, redfin and Murray cod. The size of the cod in the lake is generally excellent and they are worth targeting over the weekend. If you are in search of a trophy cod over the long weekend the tip would be to maximize your fishing time by concentrating around low light periods when ski boats and jetski activity is lower.
