Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Did someone say Albie Fever?! Shore, kayak and boat anglers are all having luck hooking up with those funny fish off the south side of the Cape…Hyannis to Falmouth. Don’t get me wrong; many of those anglers are also getting very frustrated by those hard tailed fish. If you have been out for them and not had the thrill of the screaming drag they produce, keep putting in your time and you too will be rewarded. Epoxy Resin jigs are producing, if in the right place at the right time. The size and color preference can vary by day and hour, so my advice is to go out on the water with a variety. The Albie Snax are also a go-to soft plastic which are getting anglers tight lines.
Here a quick video of Sports Port’s Ben S. catching an albie out on Nantucket Sound:
Ben catches an albie
A few days ago we were fishing from the kayak as well as from the shore in Cotuit and catching Striped bass up to 24in. The Rebel Jumpin’ Minnow was the lure of choice. There was LOADS of peanut bunker in the bay and snapper blues underneath. At Dowses beach people are using seaworms and squid on the bottom and catching scup, northern kingfish and bluefish.
Sports Port Pro Staffer Striper Mike was recently catching slot sized bass as big as 30in from shore. Mike offers guided shore trips. If you are interested in booking a surfcasting trip for albies or striped bass email us here.
Boat anglers were catching large bluefish on the Northside. Schoolie bass are being caught in Barnstable harbor.
Tight lines!Amy
