Lake Lanier Fishing

Lake Lanier Fishing

Lake Sidney Lanier is a 38,000 acre reservoir located about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta, Georgia. It was created by the construction of the Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River in 1956. With over 59 square miles of water and over 690 miles of shoreline, there is a lot of different opportunities for fishing Lake Lanier.

Lake Lanier is known for its excellent Striped Bass fishing. The current lake record of 47 pounds and 12 ounces was caught in April, 2010 on a chartreuse and pepper plastic lizard, near the mouth of Bald Ridge. This huge fish had 31 1/2-inch girth and was 45 inches long. One of the most popular methods to catch Lake Lanier Stripped Bass is using live bait. Gizzard Shad and Blueblack Herring are the most common baits of choice.

Other target species for Lake Lanier anglers include Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass, Crappie, and Catfish. Brown, Brook, and Rainbow Trout can also be found in the the lake. Bluegill, Walleye, White bass, and Longnose Gar can be caught as well.
