Lake Norman Fishing

Lake Norman Fishing

Lake Norman is a 32,510-acre man-made lake in North Carolina that features 510 miles of shoreline. Duke Energy created the freshwater lake between 1959 and 1964 when it constructed the Cowans Ford Dam. The lake is a popular place to go fishing as well as a location of national tournaments. It's full of striped bass, largemouth bass, bluegill and catfish.

Lake Norman fishing is busiest during early summer when the fish are more active. It's possible to catch fish here at any time of the year. Lake Norman fishing opportunities include largemouth bass, black crappie, white bass, blue catfish, channel catfish, and white perch.

A record 85-pound blue catfish was caught in 2021, which broke the state record for this species. Joel Lineberger captured the beast using a white perch as bait. Just a year earlier in 2020, another massive blue catfish was caught, weighing in at 62.9 pounds. David Edmonds, the holder of this record, also used white perch to snag this catfish.
