Pensacola or “The City of Five Flag” on the Emerald Coast makes a top fishing destination for many anglers. It was once known as the Red Snapper Capital of the World, only to be surpassed by its neighbor to the West. However, Pensacola is not only an excellent location to target Red Snapper, but many other species of fish with its river, 3 bays, and quick access to the Gulf of Mexico.
Inshore fishing around Pensacola provides excellent Bluefish, Flounder, Ladyfish, Pompano, Sheepshead, and Red Drum (Redfish). In the spring, Pensacola offers good Cobia fishing inshore and nearshore. June through early September, you can find good numbers of Tarpon as well.
Pensacola offers some of the best reef fishing with the enormous number of artificial and natural reefs just off the coast. Bottom fishing and trolling around these reefs will produce good catches of a variety of reef fish, including Grouper, Snapper, Triggerfish, King Mackerel, Jacks, and Sharks.
Fishing offshore of Pensacola in the Gulf of Mexico can provide excellent fishing, especially out on the “edge” near Desoto Canyon. Wahoo fishing can be excellent much of the year. Lots of Blackfin Tuna and some Yellowfin Tuna can be caught as well. There is also decent Blue Marlin fishing past the 100 fathom line.
