Venice, Lousiana has some phenomenal fishing and is frequently referred to as the Sportsman’s Paradise and Gateway to the Gulf. It is also one of the top destinations in the world to catch Yellowfin Tuna, giving it the nickname Tuna Town. From inshore fishing the marshes and flats, to offshore fishing the domes and oil platforms, Venice is indeed a fisherman’s paradise.
Fishing offshore Venice provides arguably the best Yellowfin Tuna fishing anywhere in the United States. The big ones are usually caught in the late winter and early spring, while the smaller ones are more plentiful in the summer months. You can also expect to catch Mahi-mahi (Dolphinfish), Blackfin Tuna, Bonitas, and Wahoo, as well as a few Blue Marlin, Swordfish, or Bluefin Tuna, .
Bottom fishing will produce Amberjacks, many different species of Snapper and Grouper, along with Sharks. There are many reefs and platforms off the Venice coast so there is no problem finding a place to drop a line.
The Mississippi River Delta and it’s labyrinth of canals offer outstanding inshore fishing for Venice. You can expect to catch Flounder, Redfish, Speckled Trout, Tarpon, and Tripletail in these waters. Sight fishing and live baiting are popular methods for catching many different species.
