Almost feels like spring here today! Windy foggy with temperatures around 50 degrees. The end of winter is in sight but spring has not arrived to stay. To prove the point; the wind is supposed to switch back to the north tonight and temperatures will plummet. Well it is coming.

I have been working on new trip ideas this winter. One of them is a once in a lifetime sort of thing and the other two are in cooperation with Selene’s Fly Shop in Gardiner. For a long time I have offered sheets with information about things to do and places to go in the area to clients and in the last few years have included links to those sheets in the message that goes out after a trip.

We like to travel and I love to fish so I always try to get in a day or two on a guided fishing trip wherever we go. Over the years this has provided me with many opportunities to fish in some amazing places and meet a bunch of guides.

Folks always ask what I do in the off season fair question since these days I am mostly free from the middle of November to April. I do guide a few trips during the colder months ( ice fishing and the occasional nature exploration trip). But for the most part it is time at my desk and feeding the wood stove.

Clients frequently ask when the trips that we offer are available. Over the years seasons have expanded and fall is much longer (and warmer). Our seasons have stretched on both ends. At the end of the season I like to take a minute to reflect on how fortunate I have been. The thing that I am proudest of is the firsts that I have been able to assist. Usually a first fish or the first of some species or a skill like the first cast with a fly rod. After all these years I wish I had kept track of them.

The last fishing trip is in the books and the boat has been taken for its annual overhaul. It seems like April was just a few weeks ago! I am once again humbled and pleased by the support from all of you. Many who i see year after year.

We've made a significant decision here at Maine Outdoors and we want to share it with you. After careful consideration we've decided to part ways with the Orvis Endorsed Program.
