Deschutes River Redside Trout & Summer Steelhead Reports
————————————————————————————

Deschutes Red Side Trout Report:

Fishing slowed down the last week of June. Most fish caught were with small flashy mayfly and caddis nymphs and emerges. Fast water areas are producing better results.
Fish also have moved out in deeper runs so adding extra spit shot to your riggings will help.

The PMD hatch last month was at least slightly better than in previous years, but still not normal by any means. Currently that hatch is done.

The Pale Evening Dun hatch is still happening but in light numbers. You see them out  from about 5 to 7pm.

The Net Spinning Caddis are hatching in fair numbers and usually after about 5pm.
Seeing a few of the Igloo Case Builders. Again, mostly in the afternoons / evenings.

Patterns to use: Lightening Bugs, 16’s, Rainbow Warriors, 16’s &18’s. Hares Ear Soft Hackle, 14’s & 16’s, Prince Nymphs, 10’s and 12’s, Sparkle Pupa’s, 14’s & 16’s, Soft Hackles, 14’s, CDC BH Pheasant tails, 14’s, Double bead caddis, 14’s and 16’s. We will show you some other new patterns that have just arrived that we think will help change the mind of some of those stubborn red sides.

River level is 4,480 CFS and the water temperature has reached 58 degrees. Weather conditions will be warm and dry through this weekend and into next week.

I encourage you to click on “Monthly Hatch Chart” to see what you can expect during this month. Its also a great way to get a sneak preview of hatches in the months ahead.
