April 13- Friday the 13th

Well, we made it through Friday the 13th unscathed on the Cedar Island Ferry today. Sailing our State's Flagship Vessel, the newest, largest, and most expensive. The MV Swan Quarter..... and check this out, we are sailing with Blackbeard "the Pyrate's" Battle Flag strung in our rigging..... Right there with the United States Flag and the North Carolina State Flag. Yep, I realize that we have glamorized Capt Jack Sparrow and Piracy in general. Its great subject matter for Hollywood and it sells trinkets to tourists.... But really now, were they not Murderers, Rapists, and Thieves? Do we really want That Flag flying on our Ferrys? Leave to North Carolina. The Tar Heel State. (Tar Heels is a nikename, oops I meant nickname for a CONFEDERATE Battalion that.....duh..... Fought for the Confederacy...... follow me Sheep and Politically Correct Lemmings?) I digress....... Anyway, a few years ago, over at Ocracoke Island, just a couple miles from where Blackbeard the Pirate woke with a hangover, was slow to react to an approaching British Warship, then blundered his way onto a Shoal, ending his chance for escape. Mistake after Mistake. Untimately, James Maynard beheaded our "favorite villian" and hung his head from his Bowsprit..... Well anyway, a couple years ago, on a day that the wind blew 60 to 70 knots. The Ferrys weren't running. In these circumstances we are expected to stay at work. Stay on duty even though there's NO WAY we are running. Well, facing 10 hours of "watching the wind blow" several of co-workers started a friendly poker game. Sailors, Pirates, and Men in General have been "passing time" like this for centuries.... Well, about 10 of my co-workers got fired because of the events of that windy day. And Im talking about kids that were hired as
Temporary Traffic Workers right on to Men with 27 Years as Permanent Employess. Men with perfect histories. Fired for a poker game on a day when it was blowing 70 knots........ On Ocracoke Island..... From the NC Ferry..... And now we fly Blackbeard's Battle Flag on our Ferrys. A murderer. A rapist. A thieve. Surely, a Poker Player. The Irony is Thick. Read More
