Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Bruce and Alisa Sedacca along with their kids, Matt, Caleigh and Ben, from Georgia were vacationing for the Spring break in Fort Lauderdale and decided to charter the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Today winds were out of the east at 10 mph, seas running 2-3 ft., temperatures in the mid 80’s – a perfect commerce day.
I asked the family what they would be interested in catching, and the two boys immediately answered, “A Shark”.
Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water off of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling with two plainers, each having a sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with Ballyhoos and Bonito strips. The kids caught a couple of Kingfish in this area.
I headed out to the Shark grounds which are located in Fort Lauderdale in 350 ft. of water. There is a slight ledge in the area where the Sharks are. We put down one Shark bait on the bottom, one midrange and one on the surface. We also put out one kite with two live Goggles from each kite on light tackle. The family sat around waiting for the Shark to appear. All of a sudden Alisa shouted, “I thought I saw the fin of a Shark.” All eyes focused in that area as the Hammerhead Shark made his appearance heading for the short kite bait. The Shark frantically chased the bait around as I kept raising and lowering the live Goggle Eye from the kite while Dave, our mate, put out another Shark bait. As soon as the bait hit the water, the Shark turned and headed right toward it. The fun started as the line screamed off of the 80 International Reel; then the Chinese fire drill began, clearing all the other five lines. Ben hopped into the fighting chair to do battle. The tug of war went back and forth for the next forty minutes while the whole family cheered Ben on. Ben brought the fish to the side of the boat; Dave wired and tagged the estimated 350 lb. Hammerhead Shark, which was released to fight again.
With mission accomplished, it was time to head back - all the anglers relaxed in the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
