Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Charles Rasmussen from Naples, Florida, along with his daughter, Alexandra and son-in-law, Patrick, and his son, James, and friend, Josh, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Winds were out of the east at 15 mph and seas running 4-5 ft., temperatures in the mid 80’s.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, located 1.8 miles from shore.  If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.  We started off trolling with two plainers down, one with an orange and pink sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip; the other with a blue and white sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip.  For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

As we trolled the reefs, the whole family discussed how they were enjoying their vacation here in Fort Lauderdale.  Alexandra brought in the first fish which was a Kingfish.  From there we kept trolling around and caught a total of three Kingfish.  Then, the black shadow appeared on the right long rigger, with the bill coming out of the water, attacking the Ballyhoo. Another Sailfish made his appearance on the right short chasing the Bonito strip, but no hook up. Finally, the first Sailfish ate the Ballyhoo, and we were hooked up.  This Sailfish came out of the water dancing like he was in a marathon.    Patrick was our angler and he hopped into the fighting chair to do battle.  Twenty minutes later, Dave, our mate, brought the Sailfish into the boat for picture taking and was released to fight again.  We kept trolling and ended up with a total of three Kingfish, one Tuna, and one Mahi Mahi along with the Sailfish.

With plenty of good eating fish for dinner tonight, it was time to head back.  The anglers retired into the a/c salon for a relaxing ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
