Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Friends from New York, Jason Rice, Michael Benzinger, Joe Benzinger, Gary Jener and Sean Connor, got together for a bachelor party and chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Winds were out of the east at 12 mph, seas running 2-4 ft., temperatures in the mid 80’s with blue skies.  All of the members of the bachelor party unanimously wanted to do some Shark fishing.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, we put lines in the water north of the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale located in 120 ft. of water 1.8 miles from shore.  We started off trolling with two plainers down and four surface baits.  With winds blowing out of the east for the last few days, it pushed the blue waters all the way into the 2nd reef.  I cruised the reefs ranging in depths of water from 77 ft. out to 175 ft.    As the beer was flowing and good times were happening, the anglers took turns reeling in fish and caught a total of two Kingfish and three Bonitos.

Now it was time to do some Shark fishing.  We put out three Shark baits in 380 feet of water - one surface, one midrange and one bottom.  A Shark came in on the surface bait – hooked up and the fun began.  Our groom to be placed himself in the fighting chair and the tug of war started – line in, line out.  Thirty minutes later, Dave, our mate, grabbed the leader and an estimated 200 lb. Hammerhead Shark was released.  With time left, we reset looking for another Shark.  As the fat lady began to sing, it was time to head back to the dock.  Dave retrieved the bottom and midrange bait.  When reeling in the surface bait, 10 feet from the boat a blue streak cut across trying to eat the Shark bait – a Bull Mahi Mahi.  Our quick thinking mate, Dave, fired out a live pilchard on a spinning rod, and the Bull Mahi Mahi immediately inhaled the bait.  Jason was the angler and he worked the fish for the next twenty minutes.  As the fish came close to the boat, Dave leaned over with the gaff and with one stroke, the fish was welcomed aboard by the Topshotfishing team.  The Bull weighed in at 23 lbs – a great fight on 15 lb. test line with no leader.

The bachelor fishing party was winding down – the boys retired into the a/c salon for the relaxing trip back to the Bahia Mar Dock located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
