Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Virgil Hoback and his children, Andrew, Aarone and Sarah, along with Sarah’s boyfriend, Austin Brinkman, from Kentucky chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale. Variable winds were out of the east at 5 mph with temperatures in the high 80’s.

As the Topshotfishing team greeted Virgil’s crew, the discussion of what type of fish to target occurred.  Austin voted for Sharks and the rest of the crew agreed.  So, we will save some time for Shark fishing.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.  With 36 artificial wrecks located here in Fort Lauderdale/Broward County, it is always a good target to fish over.  The wrecks are located anywhere from 60 ft. of water out to 520 ft, and they range from 20 ft. up to 500 ft. in size.

We started out trolling with two #8 plainers down -  one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a chartreuse sea witch with a double hooked Bonito strip behind it.  All of the anglers took turns bringing in their catches.  It was now time to concentrate on Shark fishing, so we headed out to a wreck located in 350 ft. of water to do our Shark fishing.  Dave, our mate, put out one Shark bait on the surface, one midrange and one on the bottom.  There was virtually no current today but we still had to try.  After an hour and 10 minutes, I pulled the plug on Shark fishing since we had no bites and went back to trolling.  It was Austin’s turn as one of the plainer rods bent over.  We knew it was a good size fish by the way the line exited the reel.  Austin reeled in a 4 ½ ft. saber tooth Cuda with snapping jaws.  Pictures were taken of this great catch.

With two Tunas, two Bonitos, two Barracudas and one Kingfish, there was plenty of food for the family to enjoy.  The anglers retired into the a/c salon for the trip back to the Bahia Mar Dock, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
