Fort Myers Fishing

Fort Myers Fishing

Fort Myers, named after Colonel Abraham Myers, is the gateway to some of the best fishing in Southwest Florida. Two of the most famous residents were Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, who both owned winter homes there and often fished together. With fantastic flats and back bay fishing, and plentiful nearshore reefs, Fort Myers is a top destination for fishing in Florida.

Inshore fishing around Fort Myers offers some of the best Snook fishing anywhere in the country. There is also excellent Bonefish, Permit, Pompano, Redfish, Spotted Trout, Tarpon and Shark fishing. Off the beaches, you will find many different species of fish to tug on the end of the line, including Cobia, King Mackerel, and Spanish Mackerel.

Fishing the many reefs offshore of Fort Myers offers some of the best grouper and snapper fishing in the country. Huge Black Grouper, Gag Grouper, and Red Grouper are frequently caught here, as well as many different species of Snapper. There is also good Amberjack and Triggerfish to be found around most reefs. Further offshore you can catch Billfish such as Blue Marlin and Sailfish, Dolphin (Mahi-mahi), many different species of Tuna, and Wahoo.
