The temperatures in the past week and the expected higher temperatures in the coming weeks should show fish beginning to feed heavily prior to their spawning. Some good bass are taking shad-colored crankbaits on main lake points. Concentrate on the rocky red clay points. Best area is between Clarksville and Eastland Creek. Stripers are being […]

Largemouth bass fishing is fair on main lake points in six feet of water near rocks. Crankbaits spinnerbaits and five inch chartreuse/pepper grubs are the preferred baits. Crappie fishing is excellent over brushpiles and in the shallows. Slow trolling with small minnows in the backs of coves works well. Stripers are taking cut shad in […]

Please use the utmost caution when boating on our state’s waters this week. The outdoor temperatures are cold and the water is cold enough to cause hypothermia and possible death. Special note: WEAR your life jacket. It can save your life. It won’t do anyone any good in a compartment. At the very worst it […]

Bass action is fair to good on spinnerbaits and live shad in 6-8 feet of water off points. Crappie are taking small minnows over creek channels and brushpiles particularly in Rudd’s Butcher Panhandle and Grassy Creeks. A fair number of large bass are taking Rat-L-Traps in the back of creeks particularly on NE banks.

Some bodies of water throughout the state are showing ice in various amounts. In some places tide current and/or sun will move or melt the ice enough to allow entry to the water but a few places have been iced in. Check conditions before venturing forth. The warmer weather predicted for the weekend should open […]

Striper fishing is good with live bait and 3/8 ounce bucktails producing the better catches. One of the better areas is around the Rudds Creek Bridge. Largemouth bass are favoring the main lake gravel points and may be caught on 10+ crankbaits in shad colors and large spinnerbaits. Crappie are holding above brushpiles in 10-15 […]

Largemouth bass are catchable by working spoons and spinnerbaits in 20-25 feet of water on dropoffs in the lower end. The sun in the afternoon is bringing them up on rocky points to feed. Jig ‘n pig and fat plastic grubs are the ticket. Crappie are slow to hit but can be located around brushpiles […]

Largemouth bass may be caught in 3-4 feet of water on Speed Shads and Poe’s RC3 crankbaits. A stop-and-go retrieve is working best. Crappie are hovering around deep brushpiles. Vertical jigging minnows over the brushpiles will produce the better fish. Striper fishing is slow but some fish are being caught at the 25 foot level […]

When fish are found anglers can load the boat but finding them is the trick. Best action is coming from midlake and downlake areas and seems to be centered around the points halfway back in the creeks and in the edges of the flooded cover in the coves. Spinnerbaits plastic worms and jig ‘n pig […]

Bass are schooled up on structure and can be consistently caught on old road beds and points in 4-10 feet of water. Fish are aggressively hitting lures bumped on structure. Best lures are plastic worms and grubs in light colors fished on Carolina rigs. Striped bass are being caught by trolling with bucktails Cordell Red […]

Bass fishing should be improving with the falling temperatures and stabilizing weather. Best pattern appears to be a Carolina rigged pumpkinseed Zoom lizard fished in 20-25 feet of water on main lake points. Working these baits across the middle of coves in the creeks is also producing well. Striper action is slow but some fish […]

Bass action has slowed in the past week. Some good fish are being taken by fishing red mud points with stumps. Long tapering points on islands are also producing fish on deep diving crankbaits and plastic grubs. Spinnerbaits slow-rolled in shallow water early in the mornings will take some fish. Crappie action is fair over […]

Striper fishing is slow but picking up. The fish have moved near the dam and can be found from Buoy 2 to 4 with trolling still producing the better catches. Bass fishing is slow with most fish being caught in 10-30 feet of water on deep diving crankbaits and Carolina-rigged plastics. Try a bucktail jig […]

Stripers are taking trolled Cordell Redfins from buoy 4-7 in the main lake and from the mouth of Nutbush to buoys G & H in the creek. The stripers are skittish due to heavy boat traffic. Best catches are coming at dawn and dusk. Bass are located in 20+ feet of water with anglers catching […]
