Our goal was to live bait for Kings on light tackle. We started the day trying to find bait and saw several nice sized Bluefin Tuna busting the surface around 2 miles SE of Sea Buoy. At least 1 of the 3 I saw was close to being of commercial size. Several boats tried to catch them, but we were under gunned and not prepared for such an encounter. I heard several other boats that saw them, but did not hear of anyone catching any.

The bite was up North around Avon Rocks. When we got there, it wasn’t long before we started to find them. We caught 8 or 9 King Mackerel and lost a few more.

We had several Hammerhead Sharks in the spread throughout the day and had to fight them off our baits. We also saw Spinner Sharks skying and spinning. There were lots of sharks and we even heard someone on the radio that had a shark stuck between the rudder and propeller. I’d hate to have to jump in the water to free the wheel.

We also went 1 for 3 on Sailfish and almost had a double header. Lots of life out on the water.
