I have experienced these cooler rainy summers a couple of times before and it makes for great fishing at Guntersville. The winning stringers are absolutely out deep on the river ledges. To attack them 3 baits will work; a big crankbait, a football jig and a big swimbait. However if you just want to have fun the grass is full of bait and bass. It's common to catch a 20lb bag in the grass and the number of fish we catch shallow is excellent. Our best baits shallow are a topwater bait, chatterbait and a Texas rig. In the afternoons there is quite a bit of schooling activity which is a sign the fall is going to be really good. I did 3 guide trips this week and we averaged 40 bass a day with tons of 4 pounders.
