Spring 2025 Newsletter
The spring season is now behind us and what a great period of fishing we had.
Inshore the reef species fired with coral trout, sweetlip and cod taken on a range of techniques.
Also, we had a good run of giant herring and queenfish.
Herring or lady fish as they are known in the USA are hard fighting and when hooked jump with impressive acceleration.
It has been great to see the tuna returning to our bay in the warmer weather.
On the flats we had some quality fly fishing with tailing golden trevally , queenfish, grey bastards and diamond trevally coming up tight on fly.
Our fly fishing season is in full swing with the best yet to come on our Hervey Bay flats right through until May.
If you are interested in some saltwater fly action, get in early to book your dates!
We finally saw some nice weather on our Bay allowing us to search and pursue cobia, golden trevally, reef species, mackerel and more.
The cobia season was a good one with some true brutes coming on board. We release all our cobia - with a high risk of ciguatera they are a no take for us. The cobia were taken on a range of lures from prawn imitation to jigs.
Golden trevally mooching in deeper waters were also a great target species for guests with jigs, prawn imitation and vibes getting the bites.
Bonefish were also about with guests lucky enough to come tight on one getting to experience one of the worlds best pound for pound fighting fish.
Black Marlin Season
We had another slower year but dedicated anglers did experience Hervey Bay black marlins.
The marlin ranged from small 15 /20 lb fish through 55 lb great size on light tackle in the shallow waters.
We even had sailfish in the mix with one captured and another one almost tight right on the flats which would have been amazing.
The standout was Japanese angler Mr Nagai San landing a quality one on fly tackle.
Don’t miss out on the 2026 marlin season get in early!
Summer School Holidays
We still have some dates left for the Summer School holidays book in early and don’t miss out on some summer fun on the water!
Tuna Season 2026
A small number of longtails have already arrived and from February we will see an increase in numbers as they migrate down the coast. Come and experience the longtails in the calm waters of Hervey Bay with many sight fishing opportunities along with the chaos of bait balls.
Right through until autumn we have great fishing and it is one of the fishiest times of the year. We are filling up quick so get in early and secure your dates.
