Emerald Isle Fishing

Emerald Isle Fishing

With a name like Emerald Isle, this North Carolina town sets the bar high. This town is nestled in the Crystal Coast on Bogue Banks. The oceanfront here is rustic and beautiful. Although the area is small with a local population of just under 4,000, it can attract thousands of tourists each week. Most of these tourists come to explore the waters of Emerald Isle, and Emerald Isle fishing is of particular interest.

Emerald Isle fishing is perfect for enthusiasts and novices alike. It is an excellent destination for offshore fishing. Since the area is along the Atlantic coastline, this is a frequent stop for migratory fish. The potential for billfish is especially noteworthy, and many people spend time fishing in the Gulf Stream off the coast. Here, it is possible to catch marlin, mahi-mahi, tuna and wahoo. One of the most notable fish that is commonly caught is sailfish.

Not all Emerald Isle fishing has to take place far from shore. There are also plenty of fishing opportunities with nearshore destinations. Emerald Isle has invested heavily into its coastline, and that includes its underwater resources. To support fish communities, there are a number of artificial reefs in the area. When paired with local shipwrecks, there is no shortage of fishing attractions. In these nearshore venues, look for amberjacks, triggerfish, snapper and albacore. During the late fall, you might even be lucky enough to reel in giant bluefin tuna.

Finally, there are also inland fishing options in Emerald Isle. The local creeks are alive with fish, and many anglers enjoy the tranquility. However, the real attractions in Emerald Isle and the rest of the Crystal Coast are the protected beaches, which are ideal for fishing and diving. Here, you may be able to catch flounder, red drum or speckled trout.
