Greenwich Fishing

Greenwich Fishing

Greenwich is known as one of the wealthiest cities in the US, and it is the largest town on Connecticuts Gold Coast. Elizabeth Fones Winthrop co-founded the town in 1640, although it was officially declared a township in 1665. During the American Revolution, General Israel Putnam escaped the town to warn people in Stamford, Conn., that the British were attacking. The Long Island Sound is one of the bodies of water you can fish from in Greenwich. It has a mix of freshwater from tributaries and saltwater from the Atlantic Ocean. Two of the islands off the coast are Calf Island and Great Captain Island. A U.S. Coast Guard lighthouse is on Great Captain Island.

Greenwich fishing offers plenty of opportunities, including at Greenwich Point Park, Greenwich Harbor and the Long Island Sound. Bluefish, Flounder and Striped Bass are among the most commonly caught fish at Greenwich Harbor. If you are after Flounder, summer is the best season for targeting this species. Other inshore fish you could catch in Greenwich are Atlantic Mackerel, Bluefish, Spotted Seatrout, Striped Bass and Whiting. Offshore catches include Atlantic Mackerel, Black Sea Bass, Blackfin Tuna, False Albacore, and Mahi-Mahi. A record 81.88-pound Striped Bass was caught in the Long Island Sound in fall, which is the best season for this species.
