High Rock Lake was built on Yadkin River in Davidson County, N.C., and Rowan County, N.C. Tallassee Power Company constructed High Rock Lake in 1926 as one of four hydroelectric projects for supporting Badin Works, which was a smelting company in Badin, N.C. It was the largest lake in North Carolina at the time it was created. The lake has a surface area of 15,180 acres, a depth of 59 feet at the dam and a shoreline that is 360 miles long. High Rock Mountain, the tallest peak in Uwharrie Mountains, is visible in the distance at the dam, providing a scenic view while fishing on High Rock Lake.

A five-year-old broke the world record for a Flathead Catfish caught on a 50-pound line while High Rock Lake fishing. The fish that he reeled in was 28 pounds.
