The Alabama Power Company created Logan Martin Lake in 1965 to provide hydroelectric energy, manage floods and offer recreation. It is 17,000 acres with an average depth of 35–100 feet. Logan Martin Lake is situated near the Appalachian Mountains with the Neely Henry Dam at the northern end and Logan Martin Dam at the southern end. The Coosa River is the primary source for Logan Martin Lake. Water from the reservoir flows out to Alabama River and Mobile River.
Logan Martin Lake fishing is excellent for targeting Largemouth Bass and Spotted Bass. 12–18-inch Largemouth Bass and 14–21-inch Spotted Bass are very common. Other types of fish that are commonly caught from Logan Martin Lake fishing are Bream, Crappie, Striped Bass and White Bass. Crappie at the lake ranges from nine to 12 inches. Early spring and fall are the best seasons to stock up on Crappie. Hybrid Bass, Striped Bass and White Bass like to swim upriver during spring, so you will easily find these species around the Neely Henry dam. In the summer, you can find Hybrid and Striped Bass in cold-water springs and spring-fed creeks.
