Smith Mountain Lake is a man-made lake located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, USA. The lake was created in the 1960s by the construction of the Smith Mountain Dam on the Roanoke River, and it is the largest lake in Virginia, covering over 20,600 acres. Smith Mountain Lake has a vast expanse of over 40 miles, 220 feet deep at the dam, and encompassed by 500 miles of shoreline. At full pond, the lake's water level reaches an elevation of 795 feet above sea level. Smith Mountain Lake is a popular fishing destination in Virginia, known for its diverse fish population and beautiful scenery.

The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, and Striped Bass. There are also Crappie, Bluegill, and many other species of Sunfish. Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish are also popular targets for anglers.

There are several marinas and boat rental services at Smith Mountain Lake that offer fishing boats, equipment, and guides.
