Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
Vancouver is a major city on the Pacific Coast in Canada. Located in British Columbia, Vancouver is a city with international appeal. It is often used for film production, and it is a business hotspot with links to North America, Asia and the rest of the world. In addition to these feats, Vancouver also happens to be one of the best fishing destinations in all of British Columbia.
When you think about Vancouver fishing, your first thought is probably about salmon. This is with good reason. Vancouver is an excellent spot to catch all sorts of salmon. In particular, you may get lucky with chinook salmon, coho salmon and sockeye salmon. Many of these delectable species spend the majority of their lives in the ocean. However, during different parts of the year, they can migrate inland to the freshwater rivers to spawn. The Fraser River in Vancouver is a popular spawning location. The population of sockeye salmon is particularly prominent. Vancouver fishing is also quite robust at Howe Sound in the spring.
The salmon runs in the Fraser River are extremely popular, which means you may need to plan ahead in order to secure your supplies and your spot. The salmon is most prevalent in the spring and summer, and the numbers really start to drop by the fall and winter. There are plenty of charters available for novices with less experience in salmon fishing.
Other popular catches for Vancouver fishing include rainbow trout and halibut. Rainbow trout love the coldwater tributaries in Vancouver. Lakes like Kootenay Lake and Okanagan Lake are also great options. For halibut, be sure to visit the waters around Vancouver Island. You may also want to try your hand at flyfishing in the Squamish River or the Eleho River. These are great destinations for trout.
