Coves & Points

The shoreline and deeper water from Hamblin Bay, around Auxiliary Point and into Rufus Bay, should be concentrated on for all species of fish. Hamblin bay is sheltered from the main river current and will produce crappie during winter. Fish for them with a small jig and tube combo under a slip bobber. The bay will also attract spawning largemouth bass in spring, which should be fished with spinnerbaits, Hula Poppers or a Texas-rigged plastic worm. The outside of Auxiliary Point will find striped bass holding adjacent the river channel. Use Flatfish or Kwikfish and jig them at the depth your electronics show fish. Rufus Bay will attract largemouth and striped bass in summer. Texas-rig or drop-shot rig plastic worms and work them in 20 to 30 feet for largemouth. Stripers will be in 25 to 40 feet and frozen anchovies are best.
