For saltwater fishing there are two main points in Ecuador: The Galapagos Islands and the mainland coast of Ecuador

The Galapagos Islands are the perfect retreat for those looking to bring their family or have a good time with friends. Famous worldwide for the extensive migrations of all types of pelagic fish, the Galapagos are a destination that promises good opportunities with blue, black and striped marlin. Full holiday packages are available for all budgets and all group sizes. The small town of Puerto Ayora, home to all fishermen, is the economic center of the archipelago, with the largest population and most tourist facilities.

Best seasons:
Striped Marlin: January, February, March, April, May, June, October, November
Blue Marlin: January, February, March, April, May, June, September, October, November, December
tuna and wahoo: January, February, March, April, May, June, September, October, November, December

On the coast, Salinas (province of Guayas) and Manta (province of Manabí) on the Pacific coast are the main fishing centers on the high seas. The fresh and nutrient waters of the Humboldt stream provide a constant supply of bait are ideal for catching goldfish (Coryphaena hippurus), barracudas (Sphyraena indiastes), blue and black billfish, yellowfin tuna and longfin tuna (Thunnus thynnus, Thunnus Alalunga) and lots of other species.

Most hotels and tourist agencies in the following resorts offer fishing trips. Salinas, Playas, Manta, Puerto López and Bahía de Caráquez.

Freshwater Fishing There are several lakes and rivers throughout Ecuador for this exciting sport. The places mentioned below are the most popular for this activity: trout fishing in the rivers and lakes of the mountain (sierra) of Ecuador is a very popular sport, although prohibited in national parks and national reserves. The well-known fishing places are La Mica Lagoon, San Marcos Lagoon, Mojanda Lagoon, Micacocha (La Mica Lagoon), River Chalupas, Chambo River, Cosanga and Papallacta, lakes and rivers in the Cajas National Park and in the area Osogoche.

Piranha fishing in the eastern Ecuadorian lagoons (Amazon) is an attraction that is offered in many of the jungle and rainforest adventure tours. After a refreshing swim in the lagoon, equipped with only one line, hook and bait, you can catch the most ferocious and bloody fish in the world ...

North of Quito
Lagoons of San Marcos, Lagunas del Voladero, near El Angel, Cajas and Mojanda.
South of Quito
La Mica Lagoon or Micacocha and Lagunas de Secas (both near Pintag and Rio Chalupas).
In the Amazon
River Cosanga (south of Baeza), Quijos River (between Baeza and Lago Agrio) and Laguna Pañacocha (east of Coca).
