6-29-2022 Fishing Report

Bring on July!

Hard to believe that the 4th of July is almost here…we have had a rollercoaster of weather during June and hopefully July will straighten out and be more stable.

Even with the difficult weather, we have continued to do well fishing. Seems like everyday is a bit different, but we usually end up finding a pocket of fish somewhere. We have caught fish as shallow as 6 feet and as deep as 28 feet this week. There seems to be a lot of different bites going on from shallow to deep. Covering water is always important. A super efficient way to do so is with a bottom bouncer and spinner. You can fish them shallow or deep. Tip them with a leech or crawler and start covering water. We usually have the boat going around 1 mph but there are times they want it slower and other times they want it faster. Play around with this.

Another deadly tactic is a leech under a slip bobber. Cover water doing this presentation as well. Give each spot 20-30 minutes. Usually, if the fish are there they will bite right away.

We even caught some fish trolling cranks the other day. #5 Salmo hornets in 10 feet of water. It’s always super fun how they hit those cranks. And fishing with cranks is another great way to cover water.

White bass are starting to school up nicely, Rip rap areas and weed lines seem to be the ticket! Casting jig/plastic combos is very deadly for bass. We are also catching some pike mixed in with the bass and walleyes. Look for them to get a bit trickier to catch as the water temps get warmer.

All and all life is good in Devils Lake! Wishing everyone a safe and fun 4th of July!! Remember, Head to Ed’s for all your bait, tackle, gas, propane, snacks, and on and off sale needs!!
