Hooking Up Anglers Since 2011.
The first couple off days of the month I had Peter and Matthew and for a mixed bag over these two days. With Peter, we fished the finger channels and rocked the yellow jacks and snappers but struck out on bonefish. At one point Peter was hooking fish on almost every cast after we figured out they were staying in a specific corner of the channel. With Matthew we found a bunch of medium sized tarpon and threw flies like crazy at the rolling fish but never got a bite. That's normal for tarpon buy the way. Then the wind laid down and I fished with repeat client David. What a morning with slick calm conditions, no wind and toons of bonefish feeding and moving in the chilly 68 degree water temperatures. After numerous shots at finicky bonefish David hooked three and landed two. Nice!
I end this report fishing with Kent and Alex from Texas under some really tough conditions for two days. Day one it rained on us 4 out of the 8 hours but Kent got a solid slob of a bonefish and then we took plenty of shots on fly at lemon sharks and Alex lost one on spin after the shark spit the hook. Then we had Tuesday the 6th. What brutal conditions with 20-25 MPH winds gusting to 30 MPH. But, these guys are crazy and I am down to fish any weather condition so we fished a full day trip. The first spot was dead and then we fished the other only spot we could fish and thankfully this is a mixed bag spot with a surprise built in. The guys started to fish as we could see huge waves crashing over the distant sand bars. One after another the fish starting coming to the boat, yellow jacks, jack crevasse, smaller mutton snappers and then a solid hook up and a screaming drag. I knew what it was but I stayed quite until we saw silver come to the boat, bonefish! This was just the beginning as the riots stayed bent, drags kept screaming and 18 bonefish were landed out of 20 hooked. What?! What a day!!!! This was incredible and the guys were more than happy. As for me, I was ecstatic! Definitely a new record for me best two 16 bonefish trips I've had in the past.
