Broome catches
Lake Kununurra was on fire this week for solid land-based barra, with @good_dhu_dhu and his crew all coming up trumps.

Boats

It’s been a tad quiet this week and fishing has mostly been confined to Roebuck Bay where Dampier Creek has offered a few barramundi. Threadfin salmon have been caught at the Fingers but otherwise it has been pretty slow, with the unpredictable weather playing its part. Not far off Entrance Point nice bluebone have been landed. The swell and wind are up this weekend but Monday onwards should see flatter conditions albeit with a bit of rain.

Shore-based

Shore fishers have been getting among the bluebone at Entrance Point as well and queenfish and trevally have shown up at times also. The Town Beach Jetty has held smaller queenfish and trevally, while some decent barramundi have been caught on the incoming tide. If accessible, Willie Creek could be worth a try for mangrove jack and barramundi. In the Fitzroy River the better barramundi spots have been The Cuttings, Langi Crossing and Telegraph Pool. If you don't mind a drive out of town, Lake Kununurra out east has been on fire for barra this week whether you take the boat out or fish from the banks.

Big thanks to the crew from Tackle World Broome for their tips! Make sure you pay them a visit for the best gear and advice for your next fishing trip.
Exmouth catches
An unexpected GT for @ocean_gromm this week using a Nomad Vertrex Max vibe while targeting bottom fish!

Boats

A lot of the dirty water that poured into Exmouth Gulf after the big downpour a couple of weeks back has found its way around the Cape to the west side, making it difficult for those trolling for billfish and Spanish mackerel with fish struggling to see their lures. Nevertheless, a few blue marlin and a couple of swordfish were caught out wide in 400m-plus depths and some big dolphinfish were reported around the wave rider buoys, but otherwise it has been quiet. Bottom fishers have done better with goldband snapper catches steady, while further out in 250m ruby snapper, big cod and tang snapper have been landed. Inshore on the west side the fishing has been good for spangled emperor, Chinaman and golden trevally, while Exmouth Reef has offered blue-lined emperor, cod and a few Spanish mackerel. At the islands, a couple of Spanish mackerel have been around and red emperor have been landed in 15-20m and out deep towards Peak Island. Exmouth Gulf has been quiet too, with only a few blue-lined emperor caught either side of the shoals and school mackerel active in close in around 10-15m. Squid have been hard work and it’s not expected to get easier this week, but a few people have managed to get a feed. The forecast for this week does not look very inviting, with stronger south-westerly winds and higher swells.

@sticksmixfishing smashed his PB crayfish with this 3kg whopper plucked from under a ledge, can easily feed a few people with bugs this size!

Shore-based

Spangled emperor catches have been excellent with good fish, some around 70cm, being caught mainly on the higher end of the tides at VLF and Lighthouse Bays, Tantabiddi, Mesa and down to Yardie Creek. Squid and mulie baits have worked best. Bluebone and cod have often been swimming with the spangos and metre-plus queenfish, a giant trevally estimated at 15kg and a Spanish mackerel were also sighted this week. At Tantabiddi, a few mangrove jack have been caught at the boat ramp. Mangrove jack have also been in good numbers at Learmonth Jetty, the town marina and Bundegi boat ramp. A few jacks have been in Wapet Creek as well. The flats at Learmonth have produced yellowfin whiting for those casting surface lures or vibes and throw netters have got plenty as well. Decent cod have been among the mangrove jack at the marina, while the marina’s outside rock wall has offered queenfish and cod. In creeks down at the Bay of Rest mud crabs have been pulled from their muddy lairs.

These great tips were courtesy of the friendly team at Tackle World Exmouth. Swing by their store for the best advice and gear ahead of your next trip!

Kalbarri catches
@nickihuntfishing ducked out north of town and cast a 77g Sardine Ball Flashboost into the middle of a bait school hoping to hook a tuna, trevally or mackerel, but after a little sink time it was a pink snapper that decided to smash it.

Boats

There has been plenty of Spanish mackerel action with good catches of various sizes, from just legal up to 20kg-plus, which were kept company by a couple of tuna species as well. The better mackie spots have been straight out from the Murchison River mouth, off Frustrations, at the North Cardinal marker and at the Blue Holes, while at the Three-Mile Reef a marlin was reportedly lost at the boat this week. Halco Laser Pros have been the go-to lure for Spanish mackerel. The warm water temperatures have also brought in a few visitors including whale sharks and manta rays. At the river mouth, tinny fishers have been throwing poppers and caught big tailor, with a fish estimated at 90cm spitting out a lure alongside the boat earlier this week. Saturday morning is looking like the best window this week but aim to get back to shore before midday.

Shore-based

Tailor fishing has been steady at Wittecarra and Red Bluff and a few dart have been mixed in with the choppers. Pink snapper have also been taken from Red Bluff and a few have been landed at the coastal gorges, along with big tailor. A cobia was caught from the cliffs recently as well. Big tailor have been smashing poppers at the Murchison River mouth and at Back Beach. At Lucky Bay, sizeable tailor and dart have been landed, while one or two good mulloway have been lost. In the river, bream around 35cm and cod to 50cm have been caught at the marina jetty, while yellowfin whiting have been active at the Sand Spit. Mud crabs have been caught from the marina jetty and from the rock bars a little further up river.

Shout out to Dean from Kalbarri Sports and Dive for his tips! Feel free to venture into his store to ask for advice if you're wetting a line around Kalbarri!
Geraldton catches

Boats

Swells have made fishing difficult, but kayakers have encountered bonito around Seal Rocks and the odd Spanish mackerel has shown up off Point Moore. Spanish mackerel catches have been far more consistent at Leander Reef off Dongara where fish to a metre have been landed. Thankfully there are brief windows opening up over the next few mornings for the boaties.

Shore-based

Weed has been diabolical and ruled out most beach fishing. A few tailor have been taken at the Greenough River mouth, while at Lucys, dart and snook were landed late last week. Small tailor and big herring have been caught behind the Lives, along with small whiting. Towards Pages Beach and Point Moore there has been a mix of herring, chopper tailor and tarwhine. Squid have been caught on the northside of the Batavia Coast Marina, while the little rock wall to the east has offered herring. The marina and Fishing Boat Harbour could also be worth a try for blue swimmer crabs. Netters chasing mullet have found good tailor in their catches so when the weed clears anglers should start to get good numbers a swell. The marina at Port Denison has held bream to 35cm and small tailor. Cod are also a chance there.

Thanks to the team at Geraldton Sports Centre for their tips! They will happily provide you with great gear and the solid advice for your next fishing trip.
Lancelin catches
Kelly managed to duck out this morning with Peter Fullarton on one of his treks and he put her on to this healthy mulloway that engulfed a bait soaking in one of the gutters close to town!

Boats

Lancelin Angling & Aquatic Club will be fishing a social comp on Saturday by catching a few whiting in the morning before a lunchtime cook up on the annual Whiting Shootout, which has been a very popular event during the demersal closure. Water temperatures are certainly up to 26-27C and the mackerel are here, although trolling can be quite tedious with copious amounts of floating weed along the current lines. Try upping the speed and running jet skirt lures at 8-10 knots these are less likely to pick up much weed. Alternatively, try setting up a burly trail in the 17-20m depths and bait cast pilchards at dawn or sunset which will negate the weed. Tuna schools have been most prolific around the 28-30m depths. The bay has fished well for tarwhine, herring, King George whiting and squid. Early on Saturday morning looks best at this stage.

Shore-based

It's been tough going for the land-based fishers over the past week, the weed has washed into the beach with every seabreeze, making fishing uncomfortable with most fishers having to pull in a huge lump of weed shortly after each cast. Despite this, the tailor have been going crazy. The mornings have seen the weed along the shore wash where anglers can keep the lines taught above the weed and fish with relative ease. Tailor have gone mad this week, numbers have skyrocketed and the size is very good with fish in the 40-50cm range, often it's been a fish from every bait that hits the water! Casts near reef have been met with hoards of tarwhine and the odd pink snapper.

Big thanks to Peter Fullarton for his tips on what's biting around Lancelin each week! If you want Peter to put you on to the fish directly, make sure you check out his Tailored Treks Tours page. Always a great time and Peter knows the best spots around Lancelin like the back of his hand.

Esperance catches
It's not often you see this species turning up around Esperance! Torin Pechar landed this white spotted guitar fish this week and we don't think we've seen this fish caught this far south before. Send us your snaps if this species takes your bait near Esperance!

Boats

Extended weather windows have offered superb fishing this week, with nannygai particularly thick offshore with plenty of double-headers and boat limits of 50cm fish easily being achieved.  Smaller boats have been enjoying a good run of breaksea cod and harlequin at Cull and Charley Islands, while small tuna have been at Black Island and big Samsonfish have been landed at Mondrain Island. Cracking King George whiting have been caught at Observatory Island and thumping sand whiting have been taken in 10m in Wylie Bay and off Twilight Cove. In Esperance Bay, a bit of burley has brought around big numbers of bull herring, and squid have continued to fish well also. The raging easterlies and swell will make it tough this weekend, but better windows are expected on Monday and early on Tuesday.

Shore-based

Israelite Bay has continued to fire for metre-plus mulloway, while the Cape Arid area has been consistent for gummy sharks and bronze whalers. Dunns Beach has held big skippy, salmon and small gummy sharks, while Roses and Christies Beaches have offered gummy sharks. Salmon Beach and Fourth Beach have yielded salmon and decent flathead, while Bandy Creek Boat Harbour has produced skippy and King George whiting. Town Jetty and Taylor Street Jetty have held big squid and bull herring at night. Bream chasers should head to Stokes Inlet.

Hats off to the very knowledgeable team at Southern Sports & Tackle for their tips! These guys love their fishing as well, so make sure you swing by their store for the best gear and advice before wetting a line around Esperance.

Great Southern catches

Boats

Strong easterlies kept boats close to shore this week with the pick of the spots being just off Middleton, near Griffith Street, which offered squid and King George whiting in the 35-40cm range. It could also be worthwhile targeting blue swimmer cabs in Princess Royal Harbour and the King and Kalgan rivers. Drop netters after a feed of crabs could also try Denmark’s Wilson Inlet, which has also held herring, good flathead and a few King George whiting. Unfortunately, it’s not looking ideal on the forecast again this week with a spike in the swell and wind but midday on Sunday could be a go or heading up river.

Shore-based

Beach fishing has been hard with the prevailing easterly winds, so plenty of fishers have opted to target bream in the King and Kalgan rivers this week where they found some good fish, while a nice school mulloway was a bonus for an angler fishing in the Kalgan. The town marina has held a few herring and whiting among the many pickers, while small King George whiting, herring and juvenile salmon have been caught at Emu Point. The town marina and Emu Point have held squid, while Quaranup is sheltered from the easterlies and should also throw up a few. Scoop netters have done best on blue swimmer crabs in Princess Royal Harbour.

Cheers to the Trailblazers Albany crew for their tips this week! Swing by their store if you're after some top gear and advice ahead of your next fishing trip. Remember, you'll also catch just as many fish off the beaches than the rocks and it is always much safer to go with this option on the south coast.

South-West catches
A fat, healthy and delicious KG for the little man aboard the boat with @tommy_miller91 off Bunbury this week!

Boats

With the demersal season over many crews have opted to dive for crayfish and have done well in 15m-plus depths out from Bunbury. This is also the time of year that squid fish well off Bunbury and weed patches in 8-14m can produce some good numbers. In the 25m depths off Bunbury big sand whiting have been picked up, but King George whiting have been much harder to find. There have been no sightings of tuna or other pelagic species, but with the warm water temperatures it is certainly worth having appropriate tackle on hand and keeping an eye out for surface bust-ups or working birds. As usual, Geographe Bay has been consistent for squid, King George whiting and sand whiting. In the Leschenault Estuary and the Collie River drop netters have found blue swimmer crabs to be widespread and plentiful, while trolling for chopper tailor, perhaps between net pulls, has been productive. Early to midday on Saturday should see nice flat conditions on the water.

Shore-based

The Leschenault Estuary has been firing for those chasing yellowfin whiting and blue swimmer crabs with both species still widespread and in good numbers. Scoop netters chasing crabs have done much better than in previous weeks. Herring have also been in big numbers in the system and have been holding in a bit deeper water than the tings. The Collie River has yielded medium-sized bream, soapy mulloway and even a few herring. On local beaches Back Beach and the Bunbury Cut have offered mainly herring and a few tarwhine, while Dalyellup has held herring and plenty of garfish. A few pink snapper have been caught by drone fishers there in the evenings. The best tailor fishing has been from Buffalo Beach right up to Preston Beach, with good numbers caught in the mornings and evenings, along with herring and small to medium-sized mulloway. Yellowfin whiting have been mooching around Preston Beach in the mornings. Herring and squid have been the main catches from Busselton Jetty, while yellowfin whiting have been in good numbers on the flats around Siesta Park, Abbey Beach and Dunsborough. Herring have been in huge numbers near the yacht club in Dunsborough and they have been caught at Yallingup and Bunker Bay as well, along with tailor and salmon. At the Dunsborough end of Geographe Bay, blue swimmer crabs have been picked up by divers. Bream have been pulled from the drains south of Busselton.

Big cheers to Whitey's Tackle & Camping for their top fishing tips as always! If you're in Australind or Bunbury and are keen to wet a line throughout our South-West make sure you ask their very friendly team who love their fishing for advice and stock up on gear at their store. If you're in Busselton, the 2 Oceans Tackle team are also incredibly helpful.

It's been a ripper of a marron season and it was great to see fishers like @bushrats making the most of the moonlight mania before the season closed at midday on Wednesday. There were good numbers and sizes across the board which puts this species in good stead for the future.
With marron season done and dusted many fishers are taking a break and catching up on sleep, but this has been one of the best seasons we've seen. For those chasing redfin perch the Collie and Capel rivers have been more consistent than Wellington and Harvey dams. In the latter location it’s been mostly kayak fishers who have had success, by moving around and fishing the deepwater snags. At Honeymoon Pool on the Collie River the resident population of small rainbow trout has remained skittish and mostly uninterested in any offerings cast under their noses.
Mandurah and surrounds

Mandurah

Boats: There’s been quite a bit of pelagic action with tuna, dolphinfish and wahoo sighted at the FADs and yellowtail kingfish appearing in burley trails, with skippy around the Five-Fathom Bank. At the back of the Five some very big squid have been landed, while sizeable King George whiting have been landed at the Bouvards and off Dawesville. Sand whiting have been thick inside the Five, while trolling for tailor has been good near the ocean entrance of the Dawesville Cut. In the estuary the better tailor fishing has been on the higher tides in the evenings and lots of herring and quite a few skippy have been active as well. Dropping a net pretty much anywhere in the estuary should produce a feed of blue swimmer crabs in a short time. All of Saturday should be lovely and flat out on the water.

Love your crabbing? To understand the impact of management changes and ensure crabbing experiences can continue to be improved, we want to hear from you! So help us and the crab fishery out by sharing your views in our survey!

Land-based: There was plenty of beach fishing action south of town this weekend when three pink snapper were landed on tailor rigs around sunset. One of the pinkies was just sized but the other two were over 70cm. A big amount of burley was used which was likely a factor and they also caught some decent tailor. Elsewhere, beach fishing for tailor has been quieter both sides of town. Choppers have been caught in twos and threes, but big numbers of herring and a few soapy mulloway to 80cm have made up the shortfall. Seascapes has been one of the more consistent tailor locations. Big yellowfin whiting have been moving out of the Peel-Harvey Estuary and a few have been caught off the beach at Falcon and Melros. Whiting are still prolific and widespread in the system but sizes have been down, which is often the case this time of year. Scooping for blue swimmer crabs in the estuary has been steady with better catches coming from the flats at Coodanup and South Yunderup. Herring and skippy have been caught from the flats and drop-offs and at the Mandurah bridges and the Dawesville Cut. Squid have been thick at the Dawesville Cut, especially at the Jolly Frog Jetty, while good numbers of chopper tailor have been caught under light on the incoming tide around the bridges.

Thinking of wetting a line around Mandurah? These great tips were courtesy of the super friendly and helpful team at Tackle World Miami so make sure you swing by their store for the best tips and gear before your next fishing trip!

SECRET HARBOUR / PORT KENNEDY / ROCKINGHAM / SAFETY BAY / WARNBRO SOUND

Boats: Many crews have been taking a breather after a pretty good demersal season but there have been decent hauls of King George whiting, sand whiting and squid in the usual haunts, including Parmelia Bank, Mangles Bay, behind Penguin Island, inside of Garden Island and off Woodman Point. Tailor have also been in good numbers inshore with Coventry Reef, Mewstones and the back of Penguin Island all holding good numbers, along with the odd skippy. A few small yellowtail kingfish have been taken towards the Five-Fathom Bank and behind Garden Island, while tuna and dolphinfish have been active at the FADs. Crabbing in Cockburn Sound has been consistent for drop netters. Saturday is looking the goods for the boaties.

Love your crabbing? To understand the impact of management changes and ensure crabbing experiences can continue to be improved, we want to hear from you! So help us and the crab fishery out by sharing your views in our survey!

Land-based: The great run of tailor on local beaches shows no signs of slowing with even novices landing plenty of fish. Beaches from Golden Bay right up to Kwinana have yielded good fish in the mornings and evenings with herring and the odd school mulloway among the bycatch. Good numbers of sand whiting have been caught at Port Kennedy and Long Point, while yellowfin whiting have been mixed in with herring, chopper tailor, flathead, sand whiting and flounder at the Penguin Island spit. Mulloway in the 80-95cm range have been caught at Woodman Point and the Ammo Jetty, along with herring, chopper tailor the odd squid. This area has also been holding scaly mackerel. Palm Beach and Rockingham jetties could also be worth a crack for mulloway, and these locations have offered, herring, chopper tailor, sand whiting and the odd squid. Point Peron has also produced squid. Swimming out from the Rockingham foreshore with a mask, snorkel, glove and crab gauge has been productive for blue swimmer crabs.

These great fishing tips were provided by the friendly team at Compleat Angler & Camping World in Rockingham, so make sure you chat to their experienced crew in store and stock up before heading out!
Perth catches
Flounder have been in great numbers this summer season throughout the Swan River and the crew from @cacwrockingham enjoyed a cracking session on the soft plastics earlier this week.

Boats

King George whiting and squid have been the main targets since the demersal ban kicked in, with good numbers of both species taken inshore at Rottnest, at the Windmills and off Hillarys, South Fremantle and Coogee. Sand whiting have been caught off Mindarie, City Beach and Cottesloe and they have been mixed in with King George whiting at the Windmills. Yellowtail kingfish have been thick off the West End of Rottnest and big dolphinfish have been at the FADs along with wahoo and tuna, while out wide marlin have been sighted. Spanish mackerel have been sighted around Rottnest and also at the Three-Mile Reef. Most of the inshore reefs from Two Rocks to Coogee have fished well for tailor. Kayakers chasing blue swimmer crabs have been dropping nets out from Bathers Beach with good success. Chopper tailor in the mid-30cm range have been taken on the troll in the Swan River from the Narrows downstream, while in Mosman Bay and Blackwall Reach big mulloway have been targeted. Drop netters have continued to do well on blue swimmer crabs in deeper pockets of the Swan, with depths from 7m producing a feed as far up as the Narrows. Saturday morning until around midday is looking like a very nice window out on the water.

Love your crabbing? To understand the impact of management changes and ensure crabbing experiences can continue to be improved, we want to hear from you! So help us and the crab fishery out by sharing your views in our survey!

Shore-based

The good run of tailor has continued at South Beach, Port Beach and the reefy areas of Cottesloe. They have turned up at the Fremantle Moles as well, mostly at night. A few tailor have been at Floreat and City Beach but it’s been mostly herring and garfish filling up fishers’ buckets. Near the E-Shed Wharf in Fremantle has yielded nice sand whiting and Fremantle Harbour has been thick with herring. The rock walls along Mews Road and the Freo Fishing Boat Harbour have offered a good mix of species including herring, whiting, skippy, tarwhine and chopper tailor. Catching them on micro jigs and small blades rather than bait can be a lot of fun and helps to keep the blowies at bay. Some good tailor have been landed at Trigg, while on the northern beaches there have been some hot sessions on big tailor that have been chasing garfish schools. A couple of small baldchin groper were landed by drone fishers around Two Rocks along with the odd small pink snapper. In the Swan River some nice mulloway have hit the jetty boards in the lower reaches with a big model landed at the Keane Street Jetty recently. Tailor catches have been good under the lights at the Narrows, Applecross Jetty and Canning Bridge, while Point Walter Jetty, Point Resolution and drop-offs and jetties in Claremont and North and East Fremantle should also produce. Flathead and flounder have been quiet in the lower reaches but a few big flathead have been taken up river from the Causeway. Giant herring action has slowed in the upper reaches and the elusive speedsters are now being targeted around Mounts Bay Road, Point Resolution, Alfred Cove and the Claremont and Como flats. Night-time yellowfin whiting chasers have found the bite has slowed, while those chasing school prawns for a feed have managed to scoop enough small ones for one or two sandwiches. Scoopers chasing blue swimmer crabs have found it hard going in the middle and lower reaches, but a few have been around at night, while bream fishing has been steady but not spectacular with bridges and structure up river from the Narrows to Guildford producing them in modest sizes. Canning Bridge and Mt Henry Bridge could be worth a crack too. Soapy mulloway action has been good as well, again around structure, with Redcliffe and Garratt Road bridges producing a few. Saturday morning is looking great for a land-based session.

A big thanks to Anglers Fishing World in Fremantle for their great tips! These guys love their fishing just as much as we all do, so make sure you ask their super friendly team for advice and stock up before wetting a line off the land or boat!
